PFD Terrain Brightness on 13.0.3

I may have found a small bug with 13.0.3, as I've never seen this before. When I select NEAREST or look at the details of an airport in my MAP screen, the terrain on the PFD gets noticeably darker. Whenever I leave these menus and go back to the moving map display, the terrain goes back to normal brightness.

Is this a known issue, or something new?

Sorry for the small pictures. Hopefully you can see what I'm talking about. I will not pay to host the few pictures I post online each year.

I have also experienced a dark map on power-up corrected by changing between terrain and sectional. You can switch back and forth without further problems. Need to fly more and gather more data, any excuse to fly more ;)

jeffa - We've seen that before rarely but haven't found a root cause. A few questions:

Does it change depending on what layers you have selected on the MAP page?
Does it change when you turn the PFD > TERR ALRT feature on and off?
What display do you have? SV-D700, SV-D1000, or SV-D1000T?
What's the serial number of the display you're seeing this on?

1. Not sure exactly what you mean there. I only noticed it when I was looking at NRST and INFO on the map section.
2. Didn't think to try that.
3. SV-D1000
4. 3143

I'll try some more things next time I'm out at the airplane...can probably duplicate it on the ground as well.

After upgrading I have the same issue.

This is not a bug on the map. With the more generic interface for charts, the currently selected chart does not get saved at shutdown. So if you turn off your unit while a chart is turned on, it comes up the next time with nothing turned on. Note that you will still see water edges and red/yellow terrain highlighting if you take off in this mode. As you discovered, you simply turn terrain or a chart back on if you want.

To anyone having the PFD problems, are these problems showing up very consistently under the circumstances described? Unfortunately, as stated, we have had very little success reproducing this problem and have never been able to do it in a consistent way.

Thanks for any additional information.

Does this only occur to those with charts? or anyone with the standard Dynon MAP?

A bit of confusion was introduced here. The original problem is independent of what the map is showing as far as we can tell.

A separate issue with the map being dark was reported, but this was because the enroute charts are now always turned off at startup and the display likely had a chart, not the regular terrain, turned on when the display was powered off. This only happens if you turn the display off with an enroute chart turned on.

Unfortunately, we are still not having any success reproducing the PFD problem.

I was able to duplicate what I was seeing. If the unit is powered down with a SA VFR chart it will come up dark on the next power cycle. If terrain is loaded it comes up with the terrain map loaded properly. The charts are slow to load but waiting doesn't allow them to load. You need to re select the desired map layer. Is this a feature or a bug? Annoying feature if that is what it is.

By design but probably not the best one. We're going to look into changing it.

I just upgraded to 13.0.3. Really don't like this undocumented feature. Please change back to leaving the previously selected layers active on power up.
