Pipistrel Virus SW & Dynon Skyview Question

My friend just bought a slightly used 2012 Pipistrel Virus SW, and it has a Dynon Skyview 10" in it. So of course he came to me to show him how to use the Skyview. I've been flying with mine in my RV6 for over 3 years. He told me the screen is asking to be updated. So I brought out the latest data base files. When he turned it on I was confused, it look so strange. Till I figured out it was running version 5.0 of the software? I didn't want to update his software without checking first. Does Pipistrel use special versions of the software, or can I load the latest version straight from the dynon downloads? I won't load sensor definitions, just the latest software and data bases.

When I go to the Pipistrel website it references Dynon webpage for the manual. Best best is to call Pipistrel CS and ask to be sure.

Per LSA rules, to make any changes to an SLSA that isn't covered in the maintainance manual requires the manufacturer's explicit authorization. So you need to contact Pipistrel and ask them which software versions have been authorized for that aircraft.
