Question for UK Users

I just got a plane with 2 x SV1000 and updated it to V7 and Pocket FMS. Its all good but i was wondering if there is any difference with Pocket FMS vs Jeppeson and if one has any advantage over the other. I have only done one flight since the upgrade so not had chance to really do much but so far so good. Any experience appreciated.
I now need to fly somewhere that isnt flat so i really get to see the synthetic vision.
Thanks Kev

The main thing that makes PocketFMS the better choice, in my humble opinion, over Jeppesen for UK (European?) users is that it is really deigned for VFR users.

It has Visual Reporting Points and small strips and airfields (often added at owner/user request) - neither of which Jepp has.

In addition it is updated regularly - often more than once a month.

Oh - and it's a darn sight cheaper! ;)

I had both and for me PocketFMS is much better and much cheaper... I would not come back to Jeppesen! (I live in france and fly in all europe)

I agree with the others Pocket is very good down here in Australia easy to load and has all the detail I need. It is also much cheaper.

I bought Jeppeson before Pocket FMS came out. I did a comparison between Jeppeson and Pocket FMS and Pocket FMS was missing a lot of airports that Jeppeson had in their database. I emailed Pocket FMS and they responded right away with a huge update for the Canadian database. Convinced me to switch to Pocket FMS. That and $ difference.

I load the FAA database if I'm flying in the US. Trouble is I can't get back to CYXE as it isn't in the FAA database. There are only two airports is Saskatchewan so I just fly around til I spot one ;).

Something that wasn't in Jeppesen were grass strips in synthetic vision. The airstrip is on the map but not on the PDF.

Kev - Same here. I get ghosts all the time. It does help find a plane once in a while but it was an experiment I wouldn't bother doing next time. I think the FAA or who ever dreamed up ADS-B has it right. Don't know when that will be in Canada though. :-/

I agree with the others. Pocket fms is better and it is the reason I proposed TO Dynon TO continue with them for the airport charts and the possibility TO load OACI charts in the SV.
But WE wait the answer from 3 months...perhaps for Christmas ?

1) Is the green runway ( grass ? ) a pocket FMS thing, as I have not seen this with Jepp. Only Black runways.
2) FMS site shows you can use georeferenced plates, anyone in Australia doing this ? Can you make up one yourself ?

Jeppesen generally has only large, hard runways as they tend to serve larger aircraft. Additionally, they use a database format that doesn't tell us what the surface of each runway is, so you generally don't see these smaller grass strips with them. PocketFMS does a better job of having those in the database.

You cannot make your own charts or plates for SkyView. They need to come from one of our data providers.
