i have gps data coming from the 696 and the data stream looks good from the setup menu... the clock is picking up gps time but the screen will not show position data... **no adahrs is installed**  is this normal? no position data if the adarhars is inop or not present?

can someone check their installation... pull the adahrs cable an see if the position fails with good gps data...

Re: position fail with gps *no adahrs installed ye

I just double checked on my desk, and we don't need a ADAHRS to show the map.

1) Do you have the port you are using for the serial connection set to "GPS 1" as the function and ONLY that port? The time will get set but no position will be used if you don't do this right.

2) Do you have a live GPS signal or the simulator? I notice you're in a hangar. The Garmin products don't output full data in sim mode.

3) Do you have the 696 set up for "normal" speed in the advanced GPS setup instead of "fast"?

thanks for the response...

1. i have it set on port one as gps 1... no other port configured... if port 5 is setup as a default i did not change it and that may be the problem?

2. although in the hangar i have the 696 puck stretched out to the bench receiving an active signal -no simulator-

3. the 696 is in normal mode... both set at 9600 baud.

Port 5 is set as GPS 1 by default. If you didn't change this it will cause the exact problem you are having.

Nice stephen,

can you take a close up picture of just the Skyview and Garmin, Try and match the terrain zoom where you can get the most difference in detail, I want to see the terrain detail differences side by side ;)

I hope you can post a pic of that please...

Thanks in advance.
