Power constraint for software updates

On the software update page it specifically says not to perform updates when the system is only powered by the backup battery. It says to only do updates when on Aircraft or external power.
What is the reason for this restriction? Is it only insurance to make sure you don't completely lose power during the update process?
My aircraft does not have an external power connection per se. Is turning on the main aircraft master switch, (which powers my Avionics from the aircraft battery), sufficient?

Yes, if you lose power during upgrade, it corrupts the OS. Only way to resolve is send the unit back to dynon.(or at least that is the way it was in the past)

If the display loses power during the update, it may require a round trip to us to fix (although we have some advanced ways to help in the field that can recover units in some cases). We're generally referring to not using SkyView's backup battery. If your aircraft battery is well-charged, you should be fine doing it with master/avionics on but your engine/alternator not running.

I would put in a cable for external power. My battery is on the firewall so I ran a plug up near the oil door with a 15 amp fuse on it. My charger puts out 9 amps so it is never a problem.

Sounds like a good solution for your purposes. I have a EarthX battery in my RV10. I have a 9amp battery charger I can plug in for charging the battery and updating software and databases.
