Since upgrading to V5 my amps now read up to -70 while volts are steady at 14.1 and with engine shut down amps read zero and as you add load they show -readings up to -12 with avionics and lights on but in flight they can go to - 70 and then back to +5 was working fine until updated to Ver 5

Where do you have your shunt installed? What was normal behavior before V5? Finally, are the -70 readings momentary readings? It's not clear, from your description, when you're seeing these readings.

Sorry for not explaining properly, RV/7 Superior engine with 60 Amp alt, The shunt is in position A , with Ver 4 ampmeter would read -amps until engine started then up to + 5 until battery full then settle at - 4 or so in flight now after installing Ver 5 sometimes the amps show -20/30 when turned on before startup if you turn off then on again it reads 0 until the Alt field switch is turned on then shows -7 and that increases as you turn more items on , But during first flight after updating to Ver5 the amps went up to -70 and slowly came back and settled at -25 the volts indicated a steady 14 volts all the time following flights the amps can go up to -70/80 the spike only last a second or two . Nothing was changed except updating to Ver5.

Under SENORS setup, is the ammeter still set to sensor type 1?

Yes sensor is still set at 1 after downloading data and viewing it the amps are going up to -38 and back to -4 during flight, the data is set to take a snap shot every 30 seconds the volts are steady at 14 .I will reload Ver4 and see what happens .

I had a similar problem recently (vers 5) - volts were always ok but amps up and down. Traced fault to one of the main battery leads not being secured properly ::), let us know if this fixes it.

I also had a similar problem and traced it to a poor connection in the fuse holder in the sensor lead. Curiously, I also didn't have a problem until v5.0. But all is well now. Go figure.
