Recommended Proc for 2 Screen Firmware Update

Can Dynon give us the recommended procedure for updating the firmware when we have 2 screens? With a single screen, it is obvious and easy. I have never had a problem.

However, my updates with 2 screens have not gone as smoothly. I will get partial reboots, failed reboots, and I actually had network devices DOWNGRADED this last time. Fortunately, everything looks good again and on V12.2 currently.

Should both screens be left on? Should we update with only 1 screen on? Then turn on the second screen and update the 2nd screen with both #1 and #2 now on? I think i have tried it with both screens on, only 1 screen on then, then turn that off and turn the 2nd screen on, and various other combinations, etc. None of these updates are as smooth as i am used to with a single screen.

Actually, now that I am thinking about this, my guess is to leave both screens on. Update screen #1. Hope that goes well. Then update screen #2?

Thanks!

If you get the 12.2 update package, turn all the Dynon equipment on by master switch and radio master. Load software on one screen. When done, the 2nd screen will have some red x's. Those will go away when the software is loaded on the second display. Since the package also includes the monthly database update, it also loads automatically.

I updated my 2 screen panel this weekend with some difficulty. Panel #1 updated without exception. Panel #21 would not enter setup mode or turn off until I killed the master and rebooted. Then I got panel #2 into setup but when I selected software update it would not extract the archive. I used the same USB drive to update screen #1. During one of the reboot cycles screen #2 could not find any peripherals (AP servos, ADSB, EMS) until I reset the network and it reverted the devices back to the previous rev 12 update. Finally screen #2 announced the duc file file was not right for the product. I got a second USB drive and screen #2 successfully updated itself and peripherals.

This is the only time I have had issues and had to revert to using a second USB drive.

So ostensibly, it shouldn't matter whether or not other displays (the ones you're not actively updating at a given moment) are powered on or off during a multi-screen upgrade. One caveat: If a display that isn't being upgraded is power cycled DURING the upgrade of another display, this can cause some modules to not get upgraded perfectly. However, this should be recoverable.

Also, note that depending on some deep nitty gritty thing about the way SkyView Network works, the first display to be upgraded may or may not upgrade the modules. This is normal. By the time you've gotten to all of the displays, everything should be up-to-date.

I wonder if there is something new here. I had the same problem for the first time. Some modules did not get updated with the 2nd screen off. I had to do a NETWORK DETECT and update to load some modules. With some maneuvering it is now o.k.

Hoyden and Carl, sounds like the same exact scenario. In fact, i had to do the same thing and copy the DUC file to a different flash drive. I had recently started using a 32GB USB3.0 drive, and i just assumed it was because of that change. Seems very strange that we both had the same issue with regards to the original flash drive not working.

INTERESTING. I also had to do a NETWORK DETECT after upgrading my dual D700 SkyView system to 12.2. Once the NETWORK DETECT finished, everything worked. I have noticed that when booting up, the 1st screen shows everything is off line until the second screen is up. Then everything works fine.
