Remote Compass in a D180/D100 redundant dual setup

In a dual screen D180/D100 setup, must you have two remote compasses?

If yes, is there any installation restrictions for how close these can be to each other etc? Can you stack them?

If you don't install two, then if the DSAB master fails, the DSAB slave will not have a compass. If you install two then the slave will still operate if the master dies.

They can be on top of one another if you wish.
