If ATC asks me to "Reset transponder", does switching it to STBY then back to ON/ALT/AUTO accomplish that?

Not really. But "reset transponder" is almost always a friendly way to say "turn it on, you forgot to before you took off" or "you have the wrong code set". They really mean "re-set your transponder to the right mode".

The Dynon transponder includes auto air/gnd mode, so you never really need to worry about that. If the bar at the top shows that it's not in SBY or GND, and you have the right code, then there really is nothing that putting it in standby and back will accomplish. Maybe back in the day of mechanical mode switches and code dials it might have sometimes worked. In the digital world, not so much.

The same processor that runs the transponder RF also runs the transponder's user interface. If the transponder is so messed up that it won't act like a transponder, the only way to do this would be to remove power and re-apply. We've never heard of this happening.
