Restore process

I have been diligent about exporting settings after each change in my new system. What is the process to restore? I recently tried to do this and essentially restore onto another screen as part of a troubleshooting process but, while a lot of files were listed none worked. Which file am I looking for? There were multiple copies of an export file with different extensions. Which is the correct one?

The .dfg is the settings file. The .sfg is the sensor definitions file for the EMS, which doesn't change unless you've tweaked it manually by hand. We update our official one occasionally on our site, and generally recommend that you keep it up to date.

Just to make sure I understand, is this how it works? Let's say I purchase a new Skyview screen. I want to replace the existing screen with the new one. I load the latest software and databases from the Method 1 portion of you site. Then, I import the latest named export file with a .dfg extension and this makes the screen identical to the old one. It will include all formatting on all the pages, calibration values for fuel senders and the like?

There are a few exceptions. There are some things that don't transfer, even with the settings files. This includes things like tach and hobbs time and a few other things (I don't have an authoritative list handy). Most of the things that aren't transferred aren't because, in most cases, settings exports and imports are used to transfer settings among different aircraft of the same type, and there are things that you don't want transferred in these cases.

If you actually had a unit that was replacing another in the same aircraft, that's probably happened because of an issue with that display that caused it to come back here for repair. In that case, when it's here for repair, we actually do backup ALL of the settings so that the display you get back is virtually identical to the one you sent.

Also, know that if you have a new display that's connected to an already-configured display via SkyView Network, the new one (the system knows that tail numbers of DYNON haven't been configured) adopts the full configuration of the already-configured display as it joins the network. So this can also be used to get a complete transfer of settings from one display to another, (excepting the things that are listed under "local display setup").

Just another example of the great customer service at Dynon. I am really impressed you do the full backup and restore for units requiring repair. In that case, I hope it is helping your folks to do an export of settings whenever I make any changes to the system. I am assuming this to be the case so I will continue to do so. I suppose I could email the file to support if the one on the unit were corrupted if it were to fail.
