RPM issues on new install

I have an IO 360 with dual E mags.
When i set up the mags for RPM I used pins 32 and 33 standard RPM input. pins
34 and 35 stated do not connect direct to the magneto so I figured that these would be used for other types of mags.
On first connection I had a high reading with the engine stopped so I messed around with settings and ended up with 150.
Gauge now works but continuously fluctuates around mid range, with the engine running it has bigger fluctuations.
I have tried several different settings and set both to 2000 which gave me a stable zero reading before starting but it stayed at zero after start.

Thanks for any info on this issue

On standard mags you need to have the resistors on the P lead. If you are getting high, fluctuating readings while running you need to increase the resistance.

Thanks

I have E Mags the book says we can connect directly to the mag so that what I have done.
I will have a look again maybe i will need resistors on these as well

in the case of 2 x P-Mags you connect to D37 pin 32or 33 as you only need to connect 1 P-Mag as it outputs rpm regardless of whether it’s working or not. NO resistors used at all.
HTH.

Thanks Jake
One pin sounds good to me, got me thinking ...If a mag fails the one to the RPM then the other mag will keep the engine running. and the failed mag stops sending a pulse then you will only loose RPM indication which is not that big of a deal. What has put me off track is on page 7-15 in the installation manual it says do not connect these pins (34.35) direct to the mag I will look at this on Tuesday hopefully it will fix the problem

Thanks for your help

Got it hooked up today The first time I have had an RPM gauge that resembles an RPM Gauge

HDX on, the RPM indicates zero the needle is stable
On start up the engine at idle RPM indicates 20 needle stable
Engine at (Guessing) 1000 RPM needle stable indication 40 RPM
Almost full power needle indicating 80 RPM but stable

What numbers are you using on the calibration? I tried 150.200.250 no real change

I am hoping this is where i can adjust to get the correct readings

Thanks for your help

Regards

Bruce

150.200.250 - where did you get that info?
What you need to do is set up the PPR ( Pulse Per Revolution) which should be 2 in your case.

Hi Jake Thanks for your help.
It makes a whole lot of difference when you have the correct information.
It works a treat TO RPM reading 2150 which is what it was before the upgrade.
I will be flying tomorrow thanks to you,
I appreciate your help,
Thanks again
