RV8 ADAHRS mounting

I am planning a new Skyview panel for my flying RV8, and would like to mount the ADAHRS behind the panel, as my pitot/ static lines are all there. Has anyone done this and what are the results with the magnetic issues?

I have a friend who mounted the ADAHRS behind his panel in a Wheeler Express and he does have some heading problems with it mounted there. I am not sure how much of a problem it is but I will send him an E-mail to find out. May be a couple of days before he responds.

I also installed a Sky View 1000 in a flying RV-8 and I mounted the ADAHRS behind the baggage compartment on a shelf attached to the left upper longeron. If I were doing it again I would mount on the middle longeron I think as it might make the pitch sensitivity a little more stable. Mounted on the upper, when the canopy is open, the heading is incorrect but OK with it closed as the metal frame is sufficiently far away as to not effect it.
I tee'd of of the existing Pitot/Static lines and ran lines under the floorboard to the ADAHRS and plugged the existing lines behind the panel.
The Tee's I used are the ones sold by Avery Tool. You can order what ever you need.
My only complaint is the pitch sensitivity of the attitude indicator in turbulence makes it almost impossible to fly IFR. DYNON says very few complain about that so they wonder if it is where I have the ADAHRS mounted but it is in the recommended area according to their drawing.

I am the Express owner Edwardoc refered to . I mounted the ADAHRS behind my panel and I get accurate heading most of the time. It seem when I first taxi out heading about 5 degrees off but after a few turns comes back pretty close. I have a Dynon D10 with the remote compass in the tail so I have accurate heading from that. I second Ed's comment about being pitch sensitive. I really don't think if you are flying IFR you can do anything but bracket the pitch with this indicator.

We don't recommend it. It rarely works, but as lacy311 has shown, your mileage may vary and it could possibly work for some people (rarely, in our experience with customers). It all depends on the magnetic fields from other instruments and electronics that are back there.

OK, I guess it has to go aft. Does anyone have experience with mounting it just aft of the aft baggage bulkhead, above the baggage shelf? I have a baggage extension tube mounted there, and it would need to go above that.

You might try mounting it low on the lower longeron by installing a couple of angles across the fuselage or building a shelf and suspending supports from the upper longeron. Either way your going to spend some time back there. Plywood support cut to fit around the bell crank makes it much easier. I had to remove my autopilot mount and strobe power supply also mounted back there to lay down to work back there. have fun :
