Hi folks,

I wanted to start a new thread for topics about our ChartData products and the ChartData Manager app.

The first real post will be in a moment about a beta version of the ChartData Manager....

Thanks, Steve

Hi folks,

As I mentioned last week, the ChartData team has been hard at work creating a new version of the ChartData Manager that speeds things up, adapts and corrects more disk and download errors, and can write data to multiple USB sticks simultaneously (my favorite part).  We'd like to invite you to try this beta release and give us feedback on it.

http://seattleavionics.com/downloads/DataManagerSetupBeta2.exe

Build # 5.2.1.0521

Please give it a spin and let us know what you think.  Feedback to beta@seattleavionics.com

Note:  It is NOT necessary to uninstall the current version first.  This will install over it but the Setup program will tell you to shut down the ChartData Manager if it is running.

What’s New in Data Manager 5.2
=========
+ Support for copying to multiple data cards or USB sticks simultaneously (not sequentially but simultaneously so saves a lot of time)
+ Single-click to toggle the status display between multiple USB sticks
+ Dynamically adapts to the data on each card or USB stick to copy only the changed files regardless of when the card or stick was last updated (previously, this only worked if the data on the card/stick was from the last cycle but would not work if it had earlier data)
+ Much faster validation of data on the PC
+ Less verbose logging in the Activity Monitor (no more “Will retry later” messages).  Verbose logging can be restored in Options.
+ New Support email link at the bottom of the app.  When clicked, it asks if you’d like to send the ChartData Manager log file to support for additional help.
+ The “Device” status sections note which drive letter the data is on.
+ Device status will always show “Unknown” if no data card or stick is in the PC
+ All-new first-time use system that asks which apps or devices you use and asks for your email and password. Also mentions that the first update will take longer than later ones.
+ Warns when downloading of Sectionals or IFR Low/High charts is enabled but no areas (states) are selected
+ References to “Flight Guide Diagrams” replaced with “Seattle Avionics Airport Diagrams”
+ Updated to Help for new features
+ Improved handling for out of disk space errors
+ Other minor changes and fixes
+ FIXED: Copying Sectionals and IFR Low/High charts to a Dynon V13+ system fails if a Dynon key file is missing or corrupted
+ FIXED: Lost Password does not always work
+ FIXED: Changing your email or password does not always work

Thanks, Steve

Excellent! Thanks for the feedback, Garrett. And thanks for the kind words -- we are DEFINITELY always trying to improve all our products and the DM is used by so many people that it's a high priority.

We have a little more minor tweaking to do next week then we'll officially release it.

Thanks, Steve

Just the fact that Dynon picked you guys says it all. The transfer is much faster especially copying to multiple sticks at once it now works really good. G.W.

Thanks Garrett,

Yes, they are a great bunch of people at Dynon. We've been working on the flight plan transfer between FlyQ EFB and SkyView this past week and they've been very helpful.

And I can also say that they are incredibly committed to their customers as I witnessed the time and effort they put in to fixing the locking up problem they have (had?) with SkyView 14. They were working very, very, very long hours.

BTW --FP transfer is about done. We'll start beta testing the feature next week.

Thanks, Steve

Hi folks,

Thanks to everyone for testing the beta for the new ChartData Manager.  As one might expect with a major architecture change, a few (very few, actually) bugs were discovered and we think we've now addressed them for another beta.  We expect this, or a version very similar to it, to be the final release version unless bugs are discovered.

http://seattleavionics.com/downloads/DataManagerSetupBeta2.exe

Please send bug reports and other comments to beta@seattleavionics.com

Version 5.2.2

Changes:
FIXED: Does not handle Scanned charts properly for pre SkyView V13 data.
FIXED: Multiple "New data ready. Click to install" popups when using multiple USB flash drives.
FIXED: Apparent (but not actual) lockup when inserting a USB flash drive after the DM has started
FIXED: Some inconsistency in use of "USB flash drive" vs. "USB memory stick"
FIXED: Occasional crashing bug/UI anomaly when switching the active display drive letters with multiple USB flash drives.

Thanks again for testing and helping us make the ChartData Manager better, faster, stronger, and able to leap tall USB sticks in a single bound ;)

Correction - the URL above was to the first public beta, not the new one. Sorry about that.

Correct:

Hi,

The new version of the Data Manager has now been released to all users.  It's identical to the final beta we released a week ago so if you already have the final beta, there is nothing to update.  Otherwise ...

Just fire up the ChartData Manager, hit Update, and the DM should update itself.  New version # is 5.2.2.0522

As a reminder, this release makes things faster, more reliable, and able to handle writing to multiple USB flash drives at the same time.

That's because they took down the beta now that it's no longer in beta.

In Steve's message:

"Just fire up the ChartData Manager, hit Update, and the DM should update itself. New version # is 5.2.2.0522"

The chart manager you already have on your PC will update itself to the latest version, no manual download needed.

Yes that's correct. Version 5.2.2 of the ChartData Manger is now officially shipping so we took down the beta version specifically so no one would download them by mistake.

If you already have the DM installed, just run it then hit Update Now as the first thing is does is check for and install updates for itself.

if you need to download from scratch, see:

http://seattleavionics.com/DataManager.aspx

for the download link and info about the DM (albeit it was not specifically updated for version 5.2 but the download link will always get the latest version)

Thanks, Steve

Steve, I've been critical of your software in the past, but in this one I have to say you've got it right - the install went quickly and painlessly. I'm glad to see some progress in the right direction.

Thanks so much for that, Airguy. We definitely do try to improve in every way.

I really do appreciate the note.

I think the ability to copy to multiple sticks at the same time (not sequentially) is pretty slick and should save many of you a lot of time.

And remember, FlyQ EFB integration with SkyView is now in beta testing and should be released to Apple very soon for public release.

Thanks, Steve

Just a quick note that the new data will be out in a few hours (final check in progress now for the Seattle Avionics Airport Diagrams).

The current data is good until 12:01 AM Thursday (East Coast time).

Please fire-up the Data Manager and put your USB stick or sticks into your PC and just let it run. When the new data goes live, the DM will detect it within an hour and do the download then copy to the USB stick(s) automatically.

And be sure to use the new "Support" link on the ChartData Manager if you have any questions or problems.

Thanks, Steve

Hi,

We're having a small problem with the download of the IFR Enroute Low charts so have temporarily disabled some of the chart downloads (all scanned charts - SEC, LO, HI) while we fix and verify.

The fixed files are being processed now and we don't expect the issue to last longer than about an hour. The ChartData Manager should correctly download the revised files, if you've already downloaded the data (IFR Low enroute charts) with the issue, automatically when it's corrected.

We're sorry for the issue but wanted to notify all of you immediately of the issue. Again, new data is not actually required until Thursday AM.

Thanks, Steve

Thanks for the update I just noticed that. Just letting us know there is a problem and that it is being worked on means a lot to me. Much better than wondering if it is problem on my end.

Updates re-enabled. IFR Low and all other charts now downloading normally for the next data cycle.

Again, sorry for the issue.

Downloading Seattle Avionics data for Dynon Skyview, with ChartData Manager, is still too slow and cumbersome. I only download data for 6 southeastern states. My internet connect speed is 50,000 Mbps.

By comparison, I received new data for Foreflight, 3 days earlier and it downloaded/installed within just a few minutes for the entire US. WingX Pro download was comparable with Foreflight.
