FlyQ EFB downloads faster and easier than either of them after the first download (which is slower because we download higher-res 3D terrain data).

I don't want to get into this all again (you can read old posts if you want) but copying data to a slow USB stick is monumentally slower than downloading directly to an iPad -- it's simply a fact regarding bus speeds and the write speed of cheap flash memory compared to what they use in an iPad. We also validate the heck out of the data (which iPad apps do not) because we treat the data as certified.

As far as "cumbersome" -- since the DM runs in the background it requires absolutely zero clicks or anything else. Put your USB stick in the PC and it will download and install the data to your USB stick automatically when the new data is ready. You can be sleeping or doing whatever else you like. No iPad app is that easy. No need to EVER click a button. See:

Thanks, Steve

It is the memory stick that is slow. My Verizon FIOS connection is very fast just a few seconds. I can see it when loading the Dynon Nav and Obs databases. This is not Seattle Avionics problem it is the transfer rate to the memory stick. With a little planning it is something I can live with now that the issues with the download software has been addressed. :)

Is anyone having problems with their charts not showing up in the "layers" menu of Skyview since the new update of DataManager? I've tried two different memory sticks now. One shows VFR sectionals and IFR Highs (weird, because I don't have the highs selected to download), and the other only shows VFR sectionals. Can't get IFR Lows to show up on either, despite the green ball on DataManager. I have the latest (14.1) update on my Skyview.

Taking instrument check ride next week so I kinda need this to work :-?

Í plan on uploading the new software tomorrow, and I have the SA charts on the USB stick, so I'll check and see. However, in the meantime, you can (of course) do it "the old-fashioned way" with paper charts (and impress your examiner that you aren't dependent on those fancy-schmancy new-fangled glass panels :) ). That's how a lot of us passed our instrument checkrides in the olden days :)

Thanks Steve, yes paper is always an option. Let us know if it works for you. I deleted all SA data on my PC and memory cards in hopes that a clean re-load would fix the problem.

SkyView 14.1 and I don't have the IFR Lo charts any more (and I didn't upgrade the SA program, at least not intentionally).

I'm going cross-country this morning so I kinda need it to work too.  :-(

Unfortunately the SA software upgrades itself during the update process. Or at least I think that's what Steve P. indicated in this thread.

This isn't good.

I sent an email to both Dynon and SA support.

Anyone else?

Thanks for the report. We'll have a look. No reports of similar issues with other systems that use that data so might take a bit to verify, see what is wrong, determine which system is in error (the data or SkyView), and suggest a fix.

Thanks, Steve

Same thing for me. LO charts shown on stick, no button on Dynon. Also, no LO or SEC shows up in the secondary screen with data stick in USB port, only Terrain. What's going on Dynon, SA?? Leaving tomorrow for Sun-n-Fun. Need to resolve this.

Hi,

We believe we've found and resolved the issue. As I expected, it was NOT a bug in the data itself or in the ChartData Manager or in SkyView but with the generation of something called a "keyfile" that verifies that the actual data file is genuine.

With exceptional assistance from the great tech support and development teams downstairs (that is, Dynon), we believe we've identified, resolved, and verified the fix.  It simply requires a very small download and manual unzip.  To be clear, we tested the fix on Dynon test machines not on actual customer units so we'd appreciate feedback from you to confirm that the fix worked.

1.  Download:
http://chartdata.seattleavionics.com/charts/1604/us/lo/DynonKeyLO.zip

2.  Unzip the contents (59 tiny files) to your USB stick (s) to the \ChartData directory on the stick.  You'll know you have the right directory if you see lots of files like *Dynon.key

The corrected "key" files have been uploaded to our server so anyone downloading from this point forward will get the correct files.

We deeply apologize for the issue.  This particular scenario had never come up before and we had no technical way to validate the keyfiles (they're generated with a Dynon-supplied key generator).  We're working with them now to get a validator system put into place so we can be certain this does not happen again.

We'd also like to offer anyone affected by the issue 3 free months of data as a small way of apologizing.  Please send as email to CustomerService@seattleavionics.com if this affected you.

Sincerely,

Steve

VERY impressed with the quick turn-around time on this one, Steve. I'll try the fix this evening and report back.

rkorff -- there does not appear to be any issue w/ the Sectionals.  This issue was very strictly limited to the LO charts.  I saw the Sectionals just fine on the Dynon machines I used earlier today.

As always, if you have a problem with something PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE email support@seattleavionics.com rather than assume that we monitor a Dynon forum.

So ... please email the specifics of your issue to our support team.

Thanks, Steve

The fix works, and all is well again.  Thanks SA and Dynon for the great support!

Where can I find all the capabilities of the SA Chart when pulled up on the skyview. I can't find any information on how the charts work or what you can do with them other then they are a layer in the Skyview. What are the pro and cons of the charts, etc.
I must not be looking in the right places.
