Screen flicker

I started up our SV-D1000 efis today and the screen had this flicker to it where you could see the text/logo moving up and down rapidly. After it booted up the flicker continued for roughly 2 minutes before stopping. Has anyone had that problem, or knows what's going on?

Thanks
Kirk

Flicker is usually an indication of low battery. Did it stop flickering after engine start or on it's own? Could also be a loose connection.

I don't believe it was low battery, as they had been charged by the alternator the previous day, and there was no change when I started the engine.

The connection is also probably not an issue as the screen was fine in flight, which has a lot of vibration (relative to not running on the ground). Though, it can't hurt for me to check.

I have a video of the screen flicker if anyone from tech wants to see it.

For the first few hours, i had a screen flicker. Everything else seemed to work fine. It turned out to be a bad ground connection. Forgot to tighten a nut which i eventually discovered and fixed everything.

KP,

We don't know of any known issue that would cause the flicker, other then wiring issues like jchang reported. So it would help for you to contact Tech Support and send us copy of your video. Our email is support(at)dynonavionics.com.

Ok so I checked all the lines going to the flickering EFIS and didn't find anything wrong with any of them. We have a second EFIS and the DB9 connecting one efis to the other wasn't seated properly. I can't think of why that would cause screen flicker, but I thought it should be mentioned.

After finding no problem I swapped EFIS 2 into EFIS 1 (the spot that had flicker) and it had no problems. So I put the offending screen into the spot for EFIS 2 and it had no problems either. Go figure. So I put them back in their normal position, and again, no flicker.

So for the time being, I've swapped the EFIS units so that #1 is on the right side instead of the left where it was when the problem developed. If the screen flicker comes back that should tell me more about what's wrong.

I uploaded the video to youtube

Thanks for the help

wow, that is definitely flicker! that is definitely not what i had with a grounding issue. mine was more just that the screen was half brightness and showed a momentary flicker every few seconds or so - memory is fading as it was over a year ago.

yes it was a little alarming, and also very confusing when the flicker stopped. I'm not a fan of problems that magically disappear, but I'm not going to complain either

That's absolutely a hardware problem. Give our tech support team a call or email to get that fixed.
