How about providing the capability of connecting a second ammeter shunt.

This way if you have two alternators, you can monitor how much each is generating. Another set up could be one shunt to measure be the total current from the alternator while the second shunt could measure the current used to charge the battery. The computer can then calculate and display the aircraft electrical load.

Shunts require specialized hardware to interface, so we can't just add that in software.

We already support hall-effect sensors for current measurements. You can install up to 4 of these if you want, on top of the shunt.
