Hello, I am an italian builder of a Van's RV9.
I based all my avionics on the Dynon products (tranponder, radio, ADAHRS, EMS, ect).
Now I am going to complete my panel with 2 Skyview 10" monitors.
Unfortunately in some italian airfield there were some thieft of engines (rotax) and avionics (Dynon). They come from eastern europe to resell the stolen goods in their countries.

So my question is:
Is it possible to protect the Skyview monitor with a sort of password to keep unusable for other people but the owner?
I mean when it will be disconnect from the battery ?

My first thought would be to just file the insurance claim and be done with it - but this is a valid question actually. I'm not entirely sure how it would be accomplished without a keep-alive circuit bypassing the master switch, which I'm not crazy about either. Perhaps a hard-wired transponder-type device buried in the wire bundle, so that if the panel is removed from the plane but the wire bundle does not go with it, it would not function? Or function only enough to display the message that it won't function, and call the factory.

"Password protection" of a SkyView display is not currently a feature of SkyView.

If I ever have to put a password into Skyview, I will junk the whole system. The thought of having to input some combination into a Skyview display while perhaps in bad weather or under some other stress is a nightmare.

If the capability of requiring a password is ever added as a feature, it would be an OPTION!

Having password protection on setup items like your "N" number sounds like a great idea for this. If your system is stolen having the rightful owners "N" number sent out on the mode S transponder is a perfect way of getting caught.

I would kind of like to see the "option" of having a keyed hardware module to place somewhere within the subpanel structure and be included on the Skyview Network, that would enable the panel to operate. Remove the panel without that module, and the panel is useless. It would be a very odd thief that would be able to spend the time removing not just the panel(s) but also the enabling module which would be mounted somewhere else in the aircraft.

Maybe this is a solution in search of a problem, it's just the engineer in me trying to make it work. 

I would also vote AGAINST inputting some kind of password or entry code directly into the screen - it needs to be unobtrusive and automatic.
