Gentlemen,
First Off let me say I saw the new EFIS at Oshkosh and I think youve got a winner! Ship me two for Tuesday delivery.... Oh  not ready yet huh.... OK  Thursday will be fine...... ;)

Now on the the real question

IF I use a the D100 or the D180 and a Garmin GTX 327 transponder, can i just hook up serial data for the altitude encoder to the GTX, or do I need to convert it first?

Need to know soon  orders for the goodies are going out soon! :)

Thanks

The D180 and/or D100 will talk to a 327 or 330 with no converter. Just one wire to run.

I'm searching to make sure I understand this correctly - simply, EFIS DB25 pin 13 (serial encoder transmit)  to RS-232 in (GTX327 pin #19) enables the pressure altitude input from EFIS to 327.  The  DB25 pin #21 (ground) is best connected to the shield of the connection.  Correct?

The serial wire is the only wire that really matters. If the transponder and the EFIS are both grounded to the same place (likely), you don't strictly even need to run a ground between them. But if you want to, you want to run our pin 21 to any ground on the transponder.

Thanks. I'm bringing all my instrument grounds to the same place(common rail) so no issue - we'll see if that works for the 496 to SL40 rs232 link. :) Rick

Did you set up your 327 per the following?:

Garmin GTX327 (set on Icarus input)
Baud rate 9600
Format ALT, space, five altitude bytes, carriage return
Example message ALT 05200[CR]

Well I thought so. But I don't understand where I can enter the format line.

It's different depending on which product line you're using (I don't think you've specified). Take a peek at the relevant section of your installation manual.
