Serial data output

Hi, I read the Appendix on serial data output for v3.2. Is this our only option for recording engine data? For most of us, it is still practically unusable if so.

IE, it would be more user friendly if that data could go straight to a file, which we could read later. Otherwise, it sounds like we need to have serial data connected to a laptop or other recording device.

Am i understanding this? I haven't applied the update yet. Any schedule updates on recording data.

Thanks,
Jae

I too am disappointed that my D180 had engine data logging and my SkyView does not. I don't get it.... Even my Blue Mountain had engine logging data.... I'm just saying.

Jake and Mike:

SkyView having internal data logging is a feature that WILL be added in a future version of firmware.

But, as always, we cannot make any promises on exactly which firmware  update will include internal data logging, or when it will be added.

I had my first engine start the other day. Unfortunately, that future firmware date won't come in time for me.

I would also add that something basic is all I would have needed - nothing fancy to start with. Having the ability to write to a file to be read later would have been all i needed.

Jae:

SkyView currently supports streaming engine data - just connect a computer to one of the SkyView serial port TX and configure it to output engine data. That approach is more involved - you have to figure out how to capture the streaming data (hint - find a Data Logger program that makes sense to you, or a dedicated Data Logger device). But that has the advantage of being available now, albeit not quite as elegant as the integrated logging like the FlightDEK-D180.

Believe us - we hear you about wanting to to do internal logging - it IS coming.
