Hi Guys,

What load does it take to break the shear screw in the Servo - The Light Aircraft Association Inspector needs to know what load it needs to break its drive to the aileron torque tube.

I don't know however I can't believe those guys in the hierachy of the LAA - TOO MUCH power, anyone would think you are 'certifying' your aircraft. Hope we don't get that type of situation over here.

Why wouldn't they accept what the manufacturer has determined is the correct shear point for the screws ?

The shear screw is designed to break at 100 in/lb on the servo arm.

This is covered in the install manual on page 10-7 if they need to see it in writing.

Tell your inspection to speak with LAA Engineering. They have already been through this in great detail. I performed some torque tests earlier this year to convince them that the aileron servo attachment would not permantly distort before the shear pin failed.
