Hello All

I'm due to renew my Database subcription with PocketFMS and I was wondering if there are anyone here on the Forum from Canada who have tried both ( Jepps &  PocketFMS ) and would like to know which you prefer.

I also have G-796 ( with a Jepps Database I would assume )in my -4 and I get way more alerts about Terrain,Obstacles then I do with PocketFMS

I don't know the price for the Jepps but PocketFMS is affordable.

I just want the best one if my airplane.

Thank you for your imputs

Comparing the Jepp database on my Aera vs PFMS.... the airspace frequencies in jepp are flat out wrong. In PFMS, they used to be wrong but I worked with them to correct. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to access the information on screen, so I now just use paper charts for freq info.

I am disappointed with high cost, subscription-based databases that cannot provide the critical information that a pilot requires in flight.... Such as... I'm at 7500 feet over CYNJ, what frequency should I use?

Too often the bells and whistles take priority over pilot's needs. We have fancy synthetic vision, but we are busting someone's airspace.

A pox on both their houses, but at least PFMS has the correct info.

Well thank you Gentlemen..

That is all I needed..I'll stick with PFMS for another year and I'll see after that..

JohnS : You are right that nothing with Jepps is affordable..

Thanks again

You can reduce the cost of the Jeppesen database depending on your mission. Whenever I planned on a cross country (before Skyview) I bought the Jeppesen one time update for my GPS495 for $45. I didn't bother if I was strictly flying locally as things don't change that quickly. You could do the same with the Skyview Jeppesen updates. Just buy the one time update once a year or whenever you plan a xcountry flight.

I use Pocket FMS with Skyview because of the lesser cost than Jeppesen, but load the FAA data when I fly in the US just to make sure I have the correct data.

We've become a bit spoiled. I flew with a guy down around the busy Altlanta GA area and he used a hand written list of airports and frequencies for the area. Worked for him. ;)

By ''FAA Data', do you mean the Data available from the Dynon web site and can you use 2 different database at the same time?? Or are you using only he FAA Data once in the States??

Thanks

I just use the Dynon (FAA) data in the US. and just one database at a time. Loading either one over writes the previous one.
