I did my first test flight with my Zenith 750. Just after I got airborn the Skyview went blank. I shut it off and turned it back on but no help. I then shut it off for 15 minutes. When I turned it on that time it came back on and stayed on for 45 minutes and that was the rest of the flight. Has anyone had that kind of problem. I'm now looking for a backup. It's not fun having only a Magnetic cumpass to look at.

First, congrats on your first flight!

This is not common or a known issue. So all we can do is ask some questions to see what we can figure out:

Do you have a backup battery for your SkyView?

When was your SkyView purchased?

Does it work now?

How were you turning it off and on?

Was there any response as you turned it off and on?

Hi Dynon,
(1)Yes, I have a backup battery for the Skyview and it has been working fine.
(2)I purchesed it June 2012. It's been idle while I built the plane.
(3)Yes, it works now. The only time it went blank was in my test flight.
(4)To shut it down, I always hold the number one button down. To turn it on I have a switch that goes through a circuit breaker.
(5)When I took off and while down wind the Skyview screen went to one all white lighted display . I held the number one buttom and it shut down. I then turned it back on and the white lighted screen came back. I shut it off and waited 15 minutes, when I turned it on, it came up like it should and worked fine for 45 minutes. That was the end of the flight. It turned off normal.

Have you checked if it is one of the displays in the range from our service bulletin?:

http://www.dynonavionics.com/docs/support_bulletin_030413.html

If it turned off by holding button #1 when on the white screen, then that is almost guaranteed to be an internal connector or PCB failure, not software. You'll want to contact our support group and get that looked at.

I went back to the airport today and got the MAC numbers from the Display Hardware Information page. I also had the system upgraded to 10.1 before the problem occurred. I entered the MAC numbers and it stated my Skyview 1000 was not effected, so why the blank white screen? The MAC numbers were (OO:D0:C9:C8:9B:1D)
Thanks, Elmer

Elmer,

In-flight failures are extremely rare, and we take this report very seriously. As pilots ourselves, we definitely understand the need to trust your equipment. We would like to do some more troubleshooting with you, and gather more information to drive to root cause. We hope to understand the issue more and give you reasonable confidence of not encountering this issue in the future.

Could you email support@dynonavionics.com, and include "Case 164613" in the subject line, please?

I removed the Skyview 1000 from the airplane. I wouldn't want to do that very many times.
To give you a little better idea as to what happened.
Before flight, I wormed up the engine and all that time the Skyview worked fine. In my take off and first part of the climb it worked fine. As I turned down wind and still in a 500 fpm climb the screen went blank. Just a white screen. I shut off the Shyview by pushing in on the number one button and the skyview shut off. Then I shut off the Skyview main switch. Then I flipped on the main switch to turn on the Skyview. The only thing that came up was that white blank screen. I then pushd in the first buttom and it turned off the Skyview and flipped off the main Skyview switch. I left it off for about 15 minutes. I figured it needed time to be able to come on. While I was flying level I turned on the main Skyview switch and the screen came up the way it should. I stayed in the air for another 45 minutes and the Skyview worked fine.
While the Skyview was off I stayed very close to the airport because the only instument I had was a magnetic cumpass. There is a back up battery for the Skyview system and it was working fine.
This was my test flight for my self built Zenith 750. For a while I felt like I was in a nightmare. When it happened I was wishing I had a back up system.

I have just had the same issue with the SV-D1000 sn 756-.My setup is two screens the other being the SV-D700. SN 416-There is a battery backup on the SV-D1000. System was purchase around March 2014 and has been flying since December 2014.
We have 50 hrs on the Hobbs and have experienced no issues until yesterday. About 10 mins into the flight the SV-D1000. Went blank and just displayed the white screen. The SV-D700 continued to function but the transponder bar at the top of the screen displayed a Red Cross. I returned to the airfield and and shut down the aircraft. The 1000 remained in white screen until I held down button 1. I then rebooted the system and it started normally. I flew again for 1.5 hrs with no problems. However on landing when the master was switched off the SV-D1000 again went white until I held in Button 1.

So a few thing. First, please get in touch with our technical support team at 425-402-0433 or support at dynonavionics dot com so that we can learn more about your issue.

A few things: Know that pressing buttons 1,2, and 5 simultaneously will reboot the display no matter what it's doing. It's basically like hitting the hardware reset button on a computer.

The fact that your transponder did not continue to work after your display failed is a little bit odd. Do you know what version of SkyView software you're currently running?
