Hi Guys,

So today, finally took my first flight behind my 10 inch Skyview. Loved the HSI and flight instruments and the engine page is great but I hated the mapping.

Sorry guys there isn't enough on it, certainly not worth investing $500 dollars for it. No runways evident, and absolutely no detail to fly VFR with. Fortunately my Garmin 695 drives the HSI very well and it works just as it should and this is where I cannot understand the information from Jeppesen. The 695 uses it and shows Rivers, Trains, Roads and just about everything you need for VFR navigation.

The problem is that the basemap is sadly lacking. Without the Jeppesen, you could be in any country on any continent, it's only when you put the Jeppesen overlay on it that it makes a grain of sense. You must have geographical features to produce a map. certainly for VRF Navigation. Please Dynon, don't let the mapping spoil an absolutely brilliant product.

regards

Hi Trev,

We've heard the message from our European customers, and we'll be attacking all of those shortcomings in future releases.

You're correct Splitty  ;D

The 'rest of the world' doesn't have the deluxe items eg XM, Nexrad, ADSB, free Navdata & real depiction of obstacles etc, etc, those are only available in the USA.  For some they are essentials but others are content with basic features.

IMO, what most people want is the 'standard' features ie databases with mapping, complete Flight Planning (the functions of which is available on all aviation Gps's) & systems to operate without bugs - this should be first priority, the add ons can come later.

There are so many offering/promising features and so many customers asking for 'add ons' that I'm sure manufacturers must find it difficult to decide on time lines for future features.

However it's a competitive world and most (probably all) manufacturers try to get the 'edge' on others by releasing products before they're fully developed, that's the way it is but customers remember those that try hard to please.

At the other end of the scale is a manufacturer ( some will know who) who, in my opinion, is obviously using their customers to do the R & D work for them which is evident by the amount of postings re patches, bugs & more patches to correct other issues found. Incredibly some don't seem to mind however from my experience MOST people don't want the hassles, just a platform that delivers and performs as promised.

As for me - As an installer of many different products I don't 'collect' dealerships but work with products that I believe in & Dynon is one such company  ;)

Dynon Support,

How are you getting on with a revised basemap for the European Lads and Lassies so that we can use the mapping for VFR flying and Navigation?

A basemap is not on our short list right now, but will be early next year.

We are working on other data sources so we can get you VRP's and smaller airports ASAP.
