Excuse my ignorance. But I was told to look at my HSI (on Skyview) before I hit the enter button on the IFD-540 to check for accura. I was to look for a Left deflection, an Up deflection and a TO flag with no warnings. Where do I find these or what settings do I need to have in place when I do this test? Here is a screenshot of my HSI this morning prior to hitting enter on the IFD. Also, what should the source settings be: NAV or GPS? I cannot find an answer in the manuals, or I've over looked it. Any help would be appreciated.

All the information you are looking for is in the manuals (section 4) if you'll read them carefully - but your display is showing the correct indications and is receiving startup calibration data from your IFD-540. Do you currently have an instrument rating?

You can see the CDI is deflected to the left, The CRS (course) indication shows 150, the course needle is pointing at 150 with a TO triangle pointing in the direction of 150, and the glide slope is on the first diamond above the middle (UP). You will want to make sure the HDX HSI source selection is the 540 GPS as it is in the picture. Everything looks good on your screenshot there. Good luck on your instrument training. It is challenging but FUN!

Thank you for addressing my questions. I feel overwhelmed with information I’m trying to retain. BTW, absolutely love the IFR video KWHP VOR-A approach.
Greatly appreciate the help. Looking forward to more of your videos too.

It is like drinking through a firehose. Doing the rating with the HDX might be more difficult than steam because steam gauges show you ONLY what you need to know- you don't have to filter out as much information. The instrument rating was overwhelming for many weeks for me and then one day it just clicked. It was like magic. Two main things that helped me were 1) Researching and understanding how the IFR system and the VFR system are designed for different purposes and how they fit together. My instructor didn't really give me a broad perspective in the beginning and I think it would have helped. 2) Understanding what to expect in different phases of flight, mostly from ATC and standardized procedures. The clearance will sound the same each time before takeoff, the final approach clearance will be in the same format and you will soon be able to predict what it will be when you are aware of where you are. A good debrief every time really helps. Even if you can just record the ATC audio from your flight and play it back in your car and follow along it can help. That's my unsolicited advice haha

I got my IFR rating in my RV6 with two Dynon screens and a 430W. You will love having the Avidyne. I find myself flying IFR now more than VFR. I practice a lot. Do you have the autopilot? The autopilot really makes IFR easy, in the RV it’s almost a necessity.

Same here, Skyview and a 430W in my 9A, got my instruction and check ride in my airplane, and have not looked back since. The RV9A is a terrific instruments platform with the autopilot.

I got my IFR rating decades before I started flying with my SkyView system. Now with my G430W and Skyview combination I wonder just how I did it before. IOW, I am spoiled rotten with it.

:p
