I upgraded from an SL40 to a SL30, and am not sure where all the wires go! The installation manuals for the Skyview and the SL30 act like they have never been connected to each other before. So many wires make me worry that I might make a lot of smoke  :'(

Not sure about the wiring compatibility between the SL30 and SL40 but i wouldnt think any wiring at all would need to be changed. I think the only wiring needed between SV and SL30 is tx and rx. 2 wires which should already be connected for the SL40. The other wires are shielded to the intercom, antenna, etc.

So the SL40 and SL30 both need only a pair of wires connected to SkyView, but the SL30 and SL40's serial wires aren't the same. So you can't just connect to the same pins on the radio side. On the SkyView side, you can re-use the serial wires you were using. You'll also need to go into SkyView's serial port setup and tell SkyView that the connected device is an SL30, not an SL40.

We try to be comprehensive in the connectivity as far as the SkyView to SL30 connection goes. We cover both the specific wires from the SL30 that need to be connected to SkyView, all the way through the setting you'll need to set on both the SL30 and SkyView to have thigns configured correctly. Page 4-18 in Rev U of the SkyView Installation Guide from http://docs.dynonavionics.com is most of what you're after.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for! Still, there are also RX and TX wires on the NAV side 37 pin plug as well, are you saying Skyview don't need them, only the ones on the com side?

There is only one serial connection on the 37 pin. pins 3,4,5. ie one serial port controls both com and nav functions.

The other connector has no serial connection. You are confusing its TxKey pin 4 possibly. That is your push to talk, i believe. Not serial.

Dont have all the docs in front of me so confirm and verify!

OK thanks everybody including Dynon! I was confused but with this help and doing some studying of the schematics, it all makes sense to me now.
