EBB under UK law, anything above 'ultralights' fitted with glass primary displays must have standby altimeter, ASI and compass.

These days, even in certified GA machines, the ASI and altimeter can be electronic - no analogue required.

If you have a problem then land as soon as practicable - as I said, the engine and wings don't give a hoot whether the screens are blank.

Live the technology and smile...  ;)


PS And please stop assuming that people who work in the industry don't fly - most of us do.

Geeze Aerofurb, I never though you were a Kiwi...always assumed you flew. I did not, however, know about the British rules on back up instruments. That makes a lot sense and I think we should have that here. But the FAA licensed us as we are.
