Skyview powers down when cranking starter.

I've just completed all wiring and trialed cranking the engine.

Instantly during the crank the skyview powers down and then restarts when the crank is finished.

I've upgraded to 3.2 and it still occurs.

I have monitored Voltage to SV at crank and it does momentarily drop to 7v.

Do you have  any suggestions, or is the only solution to fit a standby battery?

Let me guess, permanent magnet starter?

There is no way to keep SkyView on when the voltage is getting that low. It actually will run down to 6V, but it samples pretty fast so you need to use an osilloscope to actually see it, but you can trust that you are actually hitting below 6V. Also, it draws about 5A of current at 6V, so some of the voltage drop is in the wiring. You could have 7V at the battery and only 6V at the SkyView.

The easiest way to fix this is with the SkyView Backup battery.

If you really think that you have 7V and never any lower at the battery, you could make sure you run short, large wires all the way to the back of SkyView, but I'll think you'll find this will fail you on the first cold morning or when the battery is 14 months old.

Also, it is actually rebooting when you start, not just going dim, right? We go dim on purpose below 10V in order to reduce the load on your battery.

Thanks very much for prompt response.

It's a sky tech lightweight starter on io360.

Your correct, it does go into a reboot.

I'll try some direct wiring to the SV and report back.

thanks

As an FYI, SkyTech says the starter draws 300A, and Oddyssey says thePC680 battery has 7mOhm of impedance, so that should only drop you to just under 10V when cranking. Might want to look over all your various connections and such and make sure everything is healthy.

Congrats on cranking the engine for the first time!
