Skyview in garage. RV7 not completed. Have been powering up Skyview many times before. All of a sudden it won't power up. Turn Master Switch off then on and it powers up. Somtimes it doesn't. You have to turn switch off then on a couple of times before it powers up. Battery Voltage 12.3

I don't believe you need the backup battery to power up Skyview. However, having it stops SV from rebooting when the starter draws the voltage too low for SV to run during a start. So it's a benefit to have a backup battery so that you can see the oil pressure right away rather than having to wait for SV to boot up.

Did you confirm that power was getting through the switch to the efis when selected "on" (perhaps a faulty switch that is intermittently working)

Ya, power is getting through to the switch and the switch checks out. Downloaded 4.0.1 and thought that might solve the problem. No joy. When i turn on the switch i am getting power because the yellow light at the back of Skyview is on. The green flashing light will not come on. When i turn on the Master switch and then turn it on again it usually powers up (on the 2nd try) Don't know where to go from here?

Sounds to me that you may have a weak battery. Are you charging the battery when not in use? I have the same issue in my flying plane. The primary- with battery powers on but the SV-700 needs to be left off until there is alternator power, otherwise the display will continue to reboot. I have 12.4 volts on my battery and can see the charge via my Vertical Power, yet the other display will not boot up. If I turn off the SV-1000 the SV-700 boots right up.
New Aircraft battery? I have a standard battery (not aircraft) hear this isn't much of an issue with larger capacity aircraft batteries.
If you can get your hands on another battery, see if that solves it for you.

Thanks for your input. Yes i thought about the battery. Its a new Odyssey PC680. i charged it up just to make sure.(12.4 volts)The skyview draws only 3.5 amps and when i turn my master switch on Skyview, it is the only hardware that is connected. The Skyview is connected to the main bus which Dynon says is fine.

The backup battery is an option, so it is not required.

We have seen some units that don't boot as reliably with the battery connected, and we're investigating this. If you do have the battery connected, try unplugging it.

With your battery at 12.3V, when SkyView is running, go into Setup->Local Display Setup->Display Hardware information, and make sure you are actually getting a voltage to SkyView that is sufficient.

Finally, when it doesn't boot, what do you get on the screen? Nothing, or a some sort of image or noise?

Will go into the setup menu. Voltage reads 12.11 volts . Internal voltages O.K. On Eng. Page Batt volts reads 12.3. What would be sufficent volts to Skyview? When it doesn't boot the screen is black. No image or noise.

That's plenty of voltage. If you're having this issue without the backup battery plugged in, then something is up with your screen for sure. You should probably give us a call or email and get that screen repaired.

This doesn't only happen when you turn if off and right back on within a second or two, does it?

No. I give the Skyview screen lots of time to power up. Maybe a minute. I then turn the master off, wait 30 secs or so, then turn the master back on. The screen usually powers up the second time.

Guys

I too have had the issue of SV not powering up. Dynon Tech support provide the best customer support I have had. It is unfortunate that I have to pay the shipping cost from Australia to get the screen back I would love to have a local distributor to manage this. However the service is so good it really does make a difference, lets hope the teething issues go away. I am sure Dynon are wanting to get rid of some of these issues as much as we do. FWIW I removed the Screens from the XP Bus and ran a seperate power source from the battery connected the panels up through their own fuses and pulable breakers hopefully no more issues?
Cheers

We certainly can't complain about the service and.......... try & get the 'warranty' that Dynon offers from manufacturers of certified systems - it can be a PITA when things go wrong but good backup eases the pain a bit ;)

FWIW - when you have screen boot up issues the first thing I'd do is power it up on the bench with a regulated power supply or direct to a good charged battery - this is a simple & cheap test to determine whether it's the unit or bus system or a wiring fault :)

I have my skyview unit now for 2 years. I occasionally will have the unit not boot up on the first try. If I cycle the avionics master switch or the skyview circuit breaker, it always boots up on the second try. I have been living with it because it always boots up on the second try, and the problem is only occasional. :-/

Just a note that we are looking into these reports, but don't have a smoking gun at the moment.
