I have an Icom A210 radio in my plane which can take serial inputs from a GPS to load the nearest airport frequencies. Does the skyview output such frequencies?
The Skyview doesn't - yet. I think it's a future feature.
The Garmin handhelds output VHF which is frequencies. The Garmin SL30/40 and the iCOM can read the VHF output, but iCOM doesn't have the complete function set that the Garmin radios have. The missing function is highlighting a frequency on the GPS and pressing enter to send it to the radio. iCOM just receives the complete frequencies list of the nearest/next waypoint if you do a route or DTO. Major flaw of the iCOM IMHO.
Thanks for the info. The reason I ask was I sent my radio in for a repair and firmware upgrade. I think they did someting with the GPS frequecies to make it work a little easier. I think it was in the way it loads it to memory. I figured I would try it out. I do have a Garmin 396 in the plane also, I may try using that output. Thanks again for the info.
So yes, this is a planned feature. In particular, a few radios, including the Garmin SL30/40, the Icom 210, and perhaps more, can receive frequencies from the Garmin x96/Aera GPS units. Once we get into radio support software, we plan on supporting this same functionality so that SkyView can send frequencies from the aviation database to radios, whether it's our own radio or those mentioned above.
Thanks for the info. One more question, if I have a 396 with serial out to the skyview as GPS1 can I use that same serial out from the 396 also to the radio? I'm thinking not but I'm not sure. One serial out to two serial ins?
