Skyview Touch randomly going onto Backup Battery

Hi there.
We have random occasions of one or both skyview screens going onto backup battery. During flight - with main battery and alternator both in good working order.
We’re new to this type of aircraft, and enjoying the Skyview - except for this dilemma.
Unfortunately the builder of the aircraft has passed away, and were working to fix the issue.
We’re suspicious of the power supply - would it be coming from the VPX unit?

So you want Dynon to debug an electrical system on an aircraft that you didn't build and has no schematic? Good luck with that. I'd pull the screens and bench test them first by hooking up a power supply. You probably have bad wiring or a bad breaker.

Until you can establish that it's a problem with the Dynon units there is not much else that can (or should) be done by Dynon.

Perhaps you can pull the datalogs and examine them for clues as well.

So generically, we switch to internal battery power (and throw the alert message that you're seeing) when the power that SkyView is receiving falls below 10 volts. Normal bus voltage in an aircraft with a properly working electrical system is usually in the 14s in flight, so something sounds like it's up here. The fact that you're seeing it on both displays is a pretty good indication that you're not getting adequate voltage delivered to the system. This could be for a variety of reasons, including loose connections (which causes a voltage drop), bad circuit protection devices, etc. One place you can look for a bit of additional information is under the DISPLAY HARDWARE INFORMATION page in setup. That gives you a real-time look at the voltage that SkyView display itself is seeing. (In contrast, the normal on-screen display shown on the EMS page is actually from a wire to the EMS module that can be directed wherever the builder would like, so it may not match what the display itself is seeing)
