I just removed my panel and have it next to my computer so I updated it. Two comments. The update was easy as it recognized that there was an update as soon as inserted the USB stick. The other updates I loaded manually. Unfortunately I can't see the map info because I'm 200 miles north of the US border and I have a single screen so the display synchronization wasn't an issue. The update procedure was easy enough though.

I updated my two screen this morning. I have lots of airports and vors. We are 30 miles outside chicago and can see the class b of ohare and class c of midway class d of gary and if i zoom out some moas. The top left has the airspeed and the top right has the altitude. I can change the altimeter setting on one screen and it changes on the other. The same with the heading bug. Very cool.

very easy update

updating the unit was very easy... plug in a memory stick with the update files and go to set up mode and it quickly did its thing automatically updating the core software, rebooting, and then automatically loading the update to the ems unit and again rebooting.  then i manually selected the small file to change the position screen to include the gps speed and elevation, and the same for the current aviation database.  the aviation database is a pretty small file and is clearly a subset of available detail... so far anyway.

it is good to see that dynon was able to get the update out as scheduled.  i am very interested in the autopilot update due in a month.

so far, i really like most everything about the skyview, except the dirty rf which was not magically resolved by the update...

I updated one of my units last night and it was all smooth as silk. I can see my airport and the nearby controlled airspace and it all looks great. The only surprise was that it took nearly an hour to make the backup file of the current configuration; no glitches, just a very long time. The actual update of firmware and map data took only a minute or two so I'm not complaining, just saying. I'll do the second unig maybe tonight; I haven't actually flown the units yet but am getting very close.

We're thinking of dropping the backup to settings backups in future releases, because a full backup is really long and may be a bit overkill. Vernon - what screens/modules do you have in your system?

I did my first backup yesterday an it only took a few minutes for the 28mb. I must have backed up the wrong thing. Everything did seem to work as advertised. Ron

At the time of the backup, I had only the two ADAHRS attached; no engine modules and the other Skyview wasn't connected either. Note that I also used a different memory stick, not the one supplied with the unit, and that might have been part of the issue.

Vernon - it well could've been. USB/SD flash memory devices vary pretty widely in their write abilities. We'll keep an ear open to see if we hear other reports, particularly with the drive that came with the display.

I updated my SV yesterday. With no EMS and being outside the USA, the only relevant files were the update and config files. The update went in smoothly. Overnight I remembered I was supposed to load the config file after the update, per the website instructions, which I did this morning. The file loaded OK and I continued the checkout. Suddenly the screen went black. The fuse was OK. When I powered up again the SV commenced booting, then shut down. By trial and error I found that by holding keys 7 and 8 during boot I could get into the system setup menu without it shutting down. By accident I saw that the system seemed to have preset key 1 to "pressed". Holding this key down turns the SV off, hence the aborted boot and shutdown. I don't know what I did, but the condition cleared and my pucker factor relaxed.
I wise man once said that debugged software is software that produces the correct output for all inputs presented to it, to date.

DS, I was a bit hasty in saying that the condition in my previous post had cleared. I can boot the SV only if I hold keys 7 and 8 after powering on. I get into the System menu, then hit Exit and things seem to work after that. I have not yet flown the unit nor tried everything out since the upgrade.
I'd like to get back to how it shipped, then try the upgrade again. Is this possible? Otherwise is there anything you can suggest to clear the condition?

after you load the update you need to upload the aviation database... same general process but it is a different file.

That AND the configuration file to toggle the map on. Note that aviation data is US-only. Check out the download page again and make sure you've downloaded everything you need as instructed.

That AND the config file. Also note that aviation data is US only at this point. The full moving map software and related subscriptions should be available worldwide later this year.

There are 4 files that need to be installed with the 1.5 update.

1) The main 1.5 program (.DUP)
2) The config file (.DFG)
3) The sensor file (.SFG)
4) The aviation database (.DUP)

If you do not install 1,2, and 4, you will not see anything. If you install 2 before 1, you will not see anything.

All of this is covered on the 1.5 update page:
http://dynonavionics.com/docs/support_software_SkyView.html

Also, you need to be in the USA, and airports do not show up at all zoom levels so you can't be zoomed way out.

DS, my problem seems to have been overlooked in the rush.

Post 1

Post 2

Today's update
I can now see why it sometimes boots and sometimes doesn't. The right knob works as it should. The left knob works as it should but simultaneously toggles key#1. This key alternately highlights and clears as the knob clicks around. If I let it dwell highlighted I get the "Hold to turn off" flag and the unit powers down. If I power it on after this sequence, it starts to boot then shuts down again. By booting it with keys 7 and 8 pressed, then exiting the system menu, Key #1 is not highlighlighted and the SV runs. If I shut it down in this condition, it will reboot normally.

Please advise....
Can I reload the update or might this make matters worse?
Can I revert to the old version, then try the update again?
Is there a config parameter I can change to make the left knob work correctly?

Peter
