Is there anywhere that lists the contents of what is updated with the US Aviation/Obstacles data from Dynon?

My biggest singular annoyance of EFIS data systems is they need to be updated monthly, most often while I'm flying around the continent. I really do not want to carry a PC solely for this purpose and doing this via iOS is interesting at best. I have figured out how to download the .duc files from Dynon with an iPhone to an iXpand drive so at least I can update this one file on the fly without a laptop.

I also use ForeFlight which I can update on the fly. But it is important to be clear about which data types are current in the Skyview when I only update the .duc file. It would also be handy to be able to update the Skyview with short term data like TFRs from an iOS app (e.g. ForeFlight) prior to lift off. The ADS-b in eventually does this but it would be really nice to "pre-pack" based upon a flight plan with an iPhone or other smart phone.

Or... have I just not figured out how to do this???

The true answer is "many little things (and sometimes big changes), everywhere". It is packaged as a national database things, and there isn't a practical way to show the changes or chunk it up. It's at least hundreds of small things around the country every update.

The nice thing is that the aviation/obs database is a modest size, comprehensive for the whole US (for the airports/airspaces/frequencies/obstacles that SkyView displays in its map and flight planning) and only takes moments to update. The reason that apps usually let you "pack" is that the charts - which are comparatively huge - can take a long time to download if you had the whole US set to update.

Here are the contents of the latest .duc file. It includes the two national databases that Dynon mentioned, the Aviation database and the Obstacle database.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any of the update files include TFRs, so it isn't possible to 'pre-pack' them in this manner.

That's correct. TFRs are streamed in real time over ADS-B (with the exception of stadium TFRs, which aren't broadcast anymore).

Thanks for the mention of the iXpand Drive. I got one. Best thing since sliced bread. Maybe no more iTunes.

My celebration was premature. When I insert the drive into Dynon HDX, Dynon does not recognize the drive. I wonder if there is some last little bit of hand waving that needs to happen so that Dynon can recognize the drive.

My iXpand drive is formatted for exFAT which is not compatible with the FAT32 format required by Dynon. You may want to verify you have FAT32.

There is no hardware change. Reformatting the drive just makes it use a different file system that the Dynon can access. Reformatting does erase the content on the drive though, so any data you want to keep needs to be saved somewhere else before you reformat.
