NAV mode requires an active waypoint feed from a connected GPS device such as a Garmin 496 or aera. The Dynon GPS250 only provides current position.

NAV mode does require an active waypoint, but this can come from inside the SkyView just as it can come from an external GPS. The SkyView has a full moving map built in that can drive the Autopilot.

The issue is that we don't have a navigation database for outside the USA yet, so there isn't a way to give it a point to go to. We will have this via Jeppesen in a few months. Once you have this database you can navigate using just the SkyView anywhere in the world.

I have a GPS 696 instaled and i thought that it should be linked to the SKYVIEW AP
Do you think that the factory forgot to connect the GPS with the SKYVIEW feature in order to have the nav function ?
I want to know if with this configuration GPS 696 connected to Skyview is it possible for the AP to fly a ''direct to'' a waipoint from the GPS 696
THANK YOU

the skyview and 696 work great together and complement each other's strengths nicely. whatever course you set up in the 696 will drive the skyview autopilot just fine.

this is true, as long as the factory tech wired them correctly, and configured both units to communicate with each other.

Sorin,

That helps, to know that you have the Garmin 696.  It is able to drive the Nav and Autopilot functions in SkyView.

I suggest you read through two references:

* SkyView Installation Guide,Page 4-13 to make sure that your srial connection from the G696 is set up correctly in SkyView, and

* Our Wiki section on "GPS Serial Compatibility" found at http://wiki.dynonavionics.com/GPS_Serial_Compatibility_and_Configuration_Settings.

Incorrect settings in the GPS are probably the most common problem we hear of.

After i did all the recomended settings, the NAV buton on the bottom pannel of the SKYVIEW apeared and the direct to a WP in the GPS function is executed by the AP ,.
1. i did yesterday a test flight to se how NAV work and i realise that if you engage the AP mode NAV ON and the intercepting angle to the Direct to angle is bigger than 30 deg. the NAV mode jumps back to HDG mode and the aircraft is following the heading bug.
2. if you are already establish on the track inbound WP the NAV ON is remaining all the way NAV ON

Do you have any ideea if there are any settings that ia have to check in order to avoid this jumping from NAV to HDG
THANK YOU

A few questions:

Are you using SkyView's built-in navigation software, or an external GPS thatconnected one to dial in the waypoint?

Did this happen more than once? Is it reliably repeatable? We haven't seen that behavior here, and wouldn't expect intercept angle to affect GPS performance.

What we have seen, though, is that occasionally external GPS systems will drop enough information that the autopilot will revert to HDG mode. This can happen quite randomly. This issues has gotten a lot better with 2.6, but it still isn't perfect. Are you running version 2.6?
