Hello All
To anyone who has install an SL-30 to a Skyview:

I got a new to me SL-30 today that I will be connecting to a Skyview and I was wondering if I need to wire all the pins of the DB37?

The SL-30 is replacing an SL-40  so the comm part should be already wired ( Using the same harness )

I won't be using an external CDI but will use the built in intercom.

What pins do I need to wire to get all the fonction of the SL-30 working ( NAV,ILS etc...?)

These pins seems to be natural to me but I'm not so sure about the others.

PINS: 1 to 5 , 8,

Don't know how to post the wiring diagram but could send it to anyone who need it.

I was also wondering if it is possible to wire a connector ( Power and ground)as per the diagram just to test the radio by connecting it to a 12V power supply or a battery...Any chance I might blow it up?

Thank you for your imput

Just connect the SL30 serial to one of the SV serial ports 1 to 4. You need to set up the SL30 in its menu too.

SL30 37 dsub connector  -

1 = pwr
2 = ground

3 = serial ground
4 = RX from SV ie (SV TX )
5 = TX to SV  ie (SV RX)

& don't forget the audio --
23 = audio out (HI)
20 = audio ground (LO)

No chance normally of 'blowing it up' if you connect correctly and have a 5 amp for radio & 2A for Nav fuse in power line (the SL 30 has an internal electronic fuse, 7 amps i think - factory repair if you blow this). ;)

Hi Jake
       That's how I was planning to kook it up but wasn't sure about all the other connections ( PINS)

   So this way I should get all the fonction of the SL-30 ie : VOR,ILS, TO & FROM flag, HSI etc ...? Am I right on this?

That's an easy set up if that is all that's required ..

Thanks

Bruno  :) :)

That's the beauty of serial data & the SL30 - no wonder most/all of the EFIS manufacturers choose this unit :)

Jake, and how do you set up the SL-30? My Skyview is not seeing the SL-30 Nav although it is wired correctly.

Thanks,

Can I get a little clarification on the SL30 connections?

I understand the need to connect serial tx and receive, OK.

Do we need to connect the serial ground to the display ground? Or perhaps to main ground point on airframe?

Are audio connections needed for some reason? Is so, what do they do on the Skyview?

Set the SL30 'Head Type' to NONE as opposed to Resolver etc - this can be done in the SL30's menu.

Serial grounds are more important with composite airframes howevr I connect them anyway as it takes one item out of the equation if I have to do any troubleshooting later. Stray EMF-EMI radiations are the bug bear of this industry & especially more of an issue with modern 'sensitive' avionics boxes, that's why I use RG400 coax and also sheilded (where called for in install manuals) wiring ;)

SL30 audio - I mentioned this for Brunos benefit, no connection to SV, just that he needed to have them connected to the rest of his aircraft systems.

For years I've seen the same questions asked about the subject. I know this stuff is in the manual, I've read it. Those few that haven't read the manual need to slow down sit down and read it. then read it again. You may just learn something.
There is a lot of good stuff in it.

Jake, it was set to "NONE", I need to go see what I have it set at now, but I think it is set on "Serial". I also had to set the network settings in the Dynon to the Nav. Now I can see the SL-30 on the display.

Hi Jake
    ''SL30 audio - I mentioned this for Brunos benefit, no connection to SV, just that he needed to have them connected to the rest of his aircraft systems.''

Thanks for that, that is something I'm gonna have to pay attention to as I'm not so sure so far where I will connect these two wires...
I've got the audios wires on the Skyview harness wired already but not connected but I assumed that the two wires ''Pin 20 & 23 '' you mentioned above are not going there are they??

I'll check with one of my buddy who's more savvy radios wise than I am before I blow anything up.. ;)

Will report back the results..

Cheers
