SL30 hook-up and settings

I have the SL30 hooked up, both TX and RX, on a serial port 2. I'm getting a needle indicating a bearing to the station and VOR freq and ID on the Skyview, but I'm not getting a CDI nor can I change the course. When I select OBS on the SL30, I get "FLAGGED" on the SL30. I suspect a setting in the SL30 set-up parameters. What are the settings for the SL30 to fully talk to the Skyview. I have "SERIAL" on the SL30 setup menu.....................What else?

You need to NOT have the SL-30 set to SERIAL. It needs to be set to NONE. Weird, I know, but it's the way it works.

Assuming I will get the missing displays, do you set the course on the SL30 or will it come up on the menu?

For now you set the course on the SL-30 using the OBS knob. Our next software update will allow you to set it on the SkyView or SL-30.

I flew a couple of ILS approaches on Sunday with Version 3.1 and it would not let me set the course on Skyview.  I think I remember being able to do it on a previous release.  Bad memory or have I messed something up?

It's not known to be broken, but I don't have a setup handy to test it at the moment. What happens when you spin the course? Was the ILS "alive" when you were trying to turn the course?

Yes, the ILS was alive; both glide slope and HSI appearing in green.  When I moved the course to the desired heading, it snapped right back where it started.  I actually tried spinning the course on both Skyviews with the same results.

I went out to the airport and verified that head type is set to NONE. My hangar is close enough to the end of the runway I can get localizer and glide slope by pulling the plane outside. If there's anything you need me to check, it's pretty easy.

Let's try a different approach to build up a matrix of how things are behaving? First, what are the SkyView serial port settings for the SL30. Are both input and output explicitly set to SL30 in your SkyView serial port setup?

Next, what happens in each off the following scenarios?

VOR freq; valid needle; spin course from Dynon.
VOR freq; flagged; spin course from Dynon.

VOR freq; valid needle; spin course from SL30.
VOR freq; flagged; spin course from SL30.

ILS/LOC freq; valid needle; spin course from Dynon.
ILS/LOC freq; flagged; spin course from Dynon.

ILS/LOC freq; valid needle; spin course from SL30.
ILS/LOC freq; flagged; spin course from SL30.

Got bounced around a little on my test flight but think I got this right.

First, what are the SkyView serial port settings for the SL30. Are both input and output explicitly set to SL30 in your SkyView serial port setup?  Serial port 1 Input shows SL30/NAV1, Output grayed 9600/NONE
Next, what happens in each off the following scenarios?

VOR freq; valid needle; spin course from Dynon.  moves/returns
VOR freq; flagged; spin course from Dynon.   moves/returns

VOR freq; valid needle; spin course from SL30.  sets new course
VOR freq; flagged; spin course from SL30.  sets new course

ILS/LOC freq; valid needle; spin course from Dynon.  moves/returns
ILS/LOC freq; flagged; spin course from Dynon.  moves/returns

ILS/LOC freq; valid needle; spin course from SL30.  Inhibited
ILS/LOC freq; flagged; spin course from SL30.  Inhibited

Are you running version 3.1? If not, upgrade to it and try resetting the serial port on SkyView (set it to none, leave the menu, then go back and try to set it up again). The grayed out serial out should say:

SERIAL IN/OUT BAUD RATE: 9600
SERIAL OUT DEVICE: GARMIN / APOLLO SL-30

Version 3.1 was installed on 5/13.  I changed Serial port 1 to NONE, exited, and set it up again (both screens).  Works fine now.  Thanks.  I guess I must not have read the upgrade instructions carefully or I messed up the install somehow. :-[
