SL30 Set Up

I've just had a good day configuring and setting up my Skyview system. Everything seems to work so far apart from the SL30.

I have a GNS430 connected via the Arinc429 module configured as GPS1 and NAV1. The NAV1 frequency and course bar show on the PFD. I have the SL30 on Serial 1 set up as NAV2. However, selecting NAV2 on the PFD gives no course bar or frequency. Strangely, also, I had to set up the serial connection separately on each PFD - is that normal?

I am pretty sure I have the serial connections wired correctly so I suspect it's something to do with the SL30 output setup. Can anyway turn a good day into a perfect one?

Setting up the serial ports on each screen is normal. Everything under the local display setup only pertains to that display and isn't synced.

There's some information on the actual serial port setup (check each display's) that can help you troubleshoot. On the serial port setup on each display, the rx counter tells you whether anything at all is getting to the serial port. It should be incrementing. Then the good sentences tells you if it's getting the format that's expected.

just did this myself. You need to set the SL30 external CDI option to NONE. Once you do this you'll see a CRS needle appear on the HSI as well as NAV2 and the freq. Once you receive a good signal you'll get the deviation bar

The instructions for changing the inputs for the SL 30 options are in the SL 30 manual and is very simple once you read how to do it. Had exactly the same indications until I changed the SL 30 setting for the External CDI to NONE

Sorry guys - must have been a bit tired last night!  I found the section in the SL30 manual.  Don't quite understand why you set NONE rather than SERIAL but there we go.....

Unfortunately, it hasn't solved the problem.  Looking at the Skyview serial set-up page, there is no data getting through.  I think I have found the problem, though.  The SL30 seems to be binding in the rack with the other units and the panel.  The right side is slightly out so I am guessing that the pins aren't quite making contact at the back.

It's in the prototype stage at the moment so I am going to leave it and add it to the list of "TO DO" when the panel comes out for final fixing.

Managed to sort out the binding yesterday and the unit now sits fully home - no help

However, I was also getting a COM FAIL message. A serach on Vansairforce revealed the problem - I have the TX/RX cross-wired ie TX to TX and RX to RX. Doh!
