SL30 to Skyview and D10A

I am currently redesigning my panel. Reading the Skyview installation manual I ended up with the following question:

I will use the SV-COM-X83 as the displayed com at the top bar (tune com). The SL30 will be connected to the Skyview using the serial connection for navigation purposes.
As a backup I use the D10A. Is it possible to wire the same SL30 serial output also to the D10A? Or do I need to install a switch to route the serial SL30 output either to Skyview or to D10A?

Regards, Daniel

You can run the SL-30 serial output to multiple devices IF they all can be set up to receive the right baud rate.

I helped with an install for an SL-30 serial out to a D10A and SkyView - works fine.

On the other hand, the D10A only has one serial input. So if you want the D10A HSI to display VOR/ILS data from the SL-30 AND want the HSI it to shift over and display GPS data from another source, you will need to have a switch external to the D10A to select the serial input. In the past I used a simple DPDT 1/4" toggle switch for this.

Carl is correct - you can split the output from an SL30 to both a SkyView and an EFIS-D10A.

As many other customers have discovered, Carl's "use a [SPDT] switch" method of selecting GPS or SL30 works. The caveat is that the EFIS-D10A (and EFIS-D100) weren't DESIGNED to work that way - but it USUALLY works. But not always, depending on the GPS and the SL-30 - we've heard from customers who've set it up correctly, but the AUTO just doesn't recognize that customer's unit. The "official" way to switch between a GPS and a NAV radio is to install an HS34 and wire those signals to that unit.

If you do use a switch, you need to set the EFIS-D10A to (SETUP > HSI) AUTO for type (GPS, SL30, AUTO) and SPEED to AUTO (4800, 9600, AUTO).
