I searched the forum, but did not find this topic...

My Skyview HDX 10" is installed. Airplane is still being built and not operational. I have power to my Skyview HDX and need to update the database. The installation manual simply states to insert the thumb drive with the database updates and the system will recognize these new files. I have loaded (what I think are) the appropriate update files from this page: https://www.dynonavionics.com/skyview-hdx-software-updates.php. When I insert the Dynon supplied thumb drive into one of the USB drives on the Skyview and nothing happens.
  1. I am uncertain of the exact files I need to load onto the Dynon supplied flash drive
  2. The "System Software" under Setup Menu is greyed out with "System Software (insert USB drive)" AFTER I insert the flash drive
Would like detailed step by step instructions for these procedures.

Thanks so much!

You simply load the file via one of the methods In your lin. The greyes out means the thumb drive isn’t recognized. Could be a bad drive, maybe not plugged in correctly, other.
you need to have all the of the network connected and working for the updates to work, you do screen individually but first you need to see the drive to update so focus on why it’s not seeing the usb, try a different thumb drive as a start.

The file can't be in a sub folder, ensure you have the update for the 10 inch and not the 7 inch. Turn on all your other equipment, radios, AP, etc. There will be updates for those as well from the same file. I purchased new thumb drives for both my displays and they only ever get Dynon software. My thinking is that this is expensive equipment to get corrupted by a bad file from an old drive.

For the navigation database you only need one file. Get it from the Skyview database update page https://www.dynonavionics.com/us-aviation-obstacle-data.php. The file will download as FAA_av2009_ob2004_15.4.7.duc. To update only the navigation database you do not need other units powered. Updating the system firmware comes from a different page and does require all units online.

Yes I agree on the Navigation database but he was referring to system software...I must have a different HDX system than you but when I go to update the Navigation every month, if I haven't turned on the other systems it will not update.

Problem solved. I spoke with Jason Smith at Aerotronics, the company that built my panel. Apparently the panel mounted USB port is inop. Tried one of the USB ports on the back of the Skyview unit and it took the update. Thanks for the feedback.
