Hi Dynon Support Team,

i want to update our planes with the latest released software.
we have now 12.2.0.2950 version and I downloaded the V13 .duc file for western Europe. Is the update done by just pressing Button7+Button8 which gives met the system software menu and then LOAD FILES... to load that .duc file on the USB device.
And this ones for each screen?

Thanks Peter

Thanks for the reply. I had read this document already but in our planes, when I get the system software page on screen the first option called SYSTEM SOFTWARE >
UPGRADE SYSTEM SOFTWARE is greyed out and I cannot select it ... so this got me confused and maybe it should be done via the LOAD FILES entry which is available

thanks Peter

Do you have the ".DUC" upgrade file installed in the root directory of the USB stick and have the USB stick plugged into a USB port on the Skyview?

Indeed,

the .DUC file is in the root of the USB and the USB is recognised because when I remove the USB stick and press Button 7 + 8 then skyview indicated the USB stick needs to be present. When i plug it in, skyview doesnt complain anymore
but the first item in the SYSTEM SOFTWARE MENU remains greyed out and is unselectable

Is this in an LSA or some such, which has different rules on who can update avionics and how it's done, by any chance?

SteveW,
this are planes in europe, under EASA rule and they are certified LSA where PPL and LAPL students and pilots will fly on.

You can try going to LOAD FILES and then load the .duc file manually, but, that's not likely to work. It sounds like your system is part of an LSA or other similar class of aircraft where the OEM is controlling the settings and version of software that is available. In this case, the updates that are available for experimental and other less restricted aircraft categories will not load: You'll need to obtain an approved update file from the aircraft manufacturer.

What kind of aircraft is this by the way?

Hi,

these are two recently aquired Sportstar Evektor RTC planes
I also think that due to certification we are not allowed to update any parameters on the avionics and I follow the logic behind this. But the SETUP MENU also contains some pure display functions and those are also blocked which I dont understand.

Agreed that there's room for improvement here.

Additionally, know that on systems that have OEM configuration and control, buttons 7/8 only let you load software, though you're right in that it would be better if it also let you see database status.

Know that SkyView will let you know on startup, on the map page, whether any of your databases are expired.

To get into the full setup menu in your configuration, you can hold button 7 while powering SkyView on. You still won't be able to change anything that the manufacturer has decided that it would like to have control of, but you'll be able to get into the deeper setup menus to see things like the installed databases.

So, this is...interesting. I had no idea Dynon was allowing OEMs to do this.

In the US, perhaps an S-LSA might have this update lock out. The owner then changes the aircraft to an E-LSA. The owner now has full legal control of the aircraft. How would the owner override this lockout craziness?

Our general policy is that once the OEM employs that control over the configuration, they're responsible for enabling updates and deciding what can be changed. So ideally, the OEM should able to enable the unlocking of the unit (it's within their capabilities). But if you're in this situation and are having trouble with that, we can help out from our end too. We haven't had to do this, but we'd probably require some proof that the aircraft is no longer in a configuration that is subject to that OEM's control.
