Software Upgrade

After finally installing my D10A, loaded with software version 02.08, I'm about to make my first update and want to cover all the bases.  I've downloaded 02.11.00 to my PC, then burned the program on a CD and then saved it to my laptop.  Reading the Dynon Support program HELP instructions for doing this, it states the update should display the extension *.efs.  As downloaded, the update does not display this extension, even with my XP program set to display extensions.  The downloaded file name is "EFIS_D10A-02.11.00-SOFTWARE."  Can you tell me if this will be safe to upload to my EFIS?    Thanks

Dave,

When I upgraded my D10 (I now have a D100) I remember the .efs extension not showing up. I don't think the EFIS would accept the load if it was incorrect. I just went back and downloaded the D10A firmware, saved it to my desktop and looked at the property settings. It does show the .efs extension. If you save the file to your desktop and Right click the icon, select Properties, that should show you the full extension. Good luck

Richard,
Thanks for sharing your experience.  I'm sure you're right and it's safe to upload, but even with a right click using Windows XP on my PC, Properties doesn't show an extension for the program, but it does for the Support Program.  My laptop has Windows 98 and doesn't show the extension either.  I'll try another download from the Dynon site, then go ahead with the EFIS update.  I've been flying the D10A for a couple of weeks and really like how it works, especially how much space it saved in my RV-4 panel.  I dumped my VFR gauges and now use only the EFIS.

I double-checked the website to make sure that the file downloads with the correct file extension and it look like it does. I'll blame Windows <grin>. In any case, the support program does check to make sure it's about to upload a valid file before it sends it over to the EFIS, so don't worry about the extension strangeness.

Note that when the "file chooser" pops up for you to tell the support program which file to upload, you may need to select "all files" before the file with the botched extension shows up.

Another cyber mystery, or maybe botched fingers on my part. I downloaded the update again and the .efs extension is there. I'll update the EFIS tomorrow.
Thanks for all the help.
