Standard 60 A alternator and backup 8 A alternator

I have read past posts about this and am a little confused. With a backup 8 amp alternator which will remain off unless main 60 amp alternator fails, how can I read its volts and amps on SV? Am I correct in thinking I could buy an extra Dynon shunt and wire it into the backup alternator circuit? I really do not want to punch a hole in my panel just for an amp/volt meter for my backup.
Thanks,
Bob

SkyView only has one ammeter shunt input, so you can't use two. We are looking in to being able to use other types of ammeter sensors (like a hall effect sensor) but we cannot do that quite yet.

We do have two voltmeter inputs on SkyView, pins 1 & 2. If you hook 1 to Alt1 and 2 to Alt2, you can see the voltages at all times. This assumes you have some sort of isolation, since if they are both hooked to the bus at all times, they will read the same.

I have a similar set up. The solution I took to this was to put in a second Dynon shunt with a DPDT switch to swich between the two.
