Standard or low voltage for RPM???

Dear Dynon,

I am replacing the DPS Instruments SmartTach as part of my Skyview upgrade. From the instruction manual it is difficult to confirm if it is using the standard or low voltage level for RPM measurement. The manual does reference that the voltage should cycle from 7/10v to 5+V so that would lead me to believe it is probably low voltage.

The problem is, 5+ is kind of vague. Worse case scenario is I will test it after I put the prop back on, but I'm hoping the answer is on the tip of someone's tongue.

:)

From your description, I'm not 100% sure what your tach is putting out, but it sounds like it goes from 0.7V to above 5V.

If that description is right, you need the low voltage input on SkyView. The high voltage requires the voltage to go above 10V, and this sounds unlikely from the description. The low voltage input will work fine with voltages up to 15V as well, so you aren't likely to damage anything.

I have an auto engine & PRSU and would like to have RPM readings for both appear on a single D1000/EMS page.

Question: Can you split the low and high voltage RPM capability for two display readings? My thought was use the LOW RPM signal for engine rpm, and use the HIGH RPM side for prop rpm (adjusted by 2:17 to 1 within the D1000). The LOW RPM signal works well now for the engine rpm.

So far, no luck. Only one or the other appears visible on the screen.
Is there any way to tackle this? Thanks.

There's a way to use not the high and low sides separately, but the left and right sides separately (ie, you would lose RPM redundancy, but you would gain the ability to monitor two). I don't have the settings here in front of me at Oshkosh. I'll come back to this thread in a couple of days when I'm back in the office and post the settings/procedures. If we don't repost, just post in this thread again to remind us.
