Got the network error today for my ADAHRS. Checked my AXIS-9A wiring hub connects and found that one of the SkyView network cables had a faulty pin 1... Was not seated in the connector shell.

Wow, it was sure nice for the software to detect the hardware error! Nice catch, Dynon. Narrowed it down to two connections and the first place I looked, I found it.

Nice! Was it one of the cables that you put the connectors together yourself, or one of the fully assembled ones?

Sorry to say it was yours, it was an SV-net-15cp on the factory terminated end.  No big deal.

Ds - I posted some general info about faulty dsub connectors some months ago to give a 'heads up' for others, seems like Vern has found one too. :)

"Why I mentioned it is that I think a well known supplier of connectors has been shipping out some dsub connectors that require the insert tool to make the pins/sockets click home fully - you don't have to ask how i know  ::) as I've had an issue which caused some grief until I found the problem.  In my case a continuity check confirmed the wiring was okay but pin seating wasn't.  I order the 500 pins & sockets on a regular basis so have had some experience in this area"  ;)

I did have one cable with a pair of pins reversed.  Found it during the build, not an issue.  I've screwed up more often than I care to admit, so it's hard to be too critical of Dynon.

My post was an 'attaboy' to Dynon for having the software smarts to localize the probem.  It took about 50 flight hours for this problem to pop up.

Looks like the Aussies and Canucks are ganging up on Dynon.  Be cautious, because in the words of one indelicate US politician who wants Canada's water, "...we have a bigger Army..."  :-?

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression -it was just that 'a heads up' as to what I have found, a complete generalisation.  BTW Dynon do not supply the connectors directly and I certainly don't mean to imply they do.

We need to be mindful of the issues that can cause some faults in our installed systems eg badly crimped terminals & pins/sockets not seated correctly etc, etc ,etc.  IMO these types of issues causes more headaches for manufacturers than actual faults with their hardware.  Using a DMM is not necessarily the only solution as many have found, it only can confirm continuity but not always a solid (physical) connection to a dsub connector.

As you know, I do a lot of installation work  and have found all sorts of issues with connectors & switches supplied by well known companies to the EAB market - Just trying to pass on some experience I've had & make the point that just because somethings not working as expected it doesn't always mean that the hardware is faulty.

Dynon is one of the companies that I have a lot of faith in (not perfect, but none are - depends on context) because they go the extra mile to help where they can eg some of the D1000/700 units that had an issue that required shipment back to them, they offered to pay shipping costs BOTH ways for that - from my experience NON of the 'certified' manufacturers do that.  While Dynon continue their excellent support & considered development of their products I will unashameadly promote them  :)
