I recently installed the SV-ADSB-472 and have it receiving weather and some traffic.  I now have to decide on which ADSB OUT system to install.  I am not looking forward to pulling my functioning transponder out and throwing it in the garbage, then looking at a big hole in my panel just to get the SV-XPNDR-261 working.  So I am considering all my options.  Here is the list I made up…

uAvionix
   SkyBeacon
   TailBeacon
   ECHO UAT

Garmin
   GDL 82
   GDL 84
   GDL 88
   GTX 335

Other Transponders
   APPAREO STRATUS ES
   TRIG TT31
   BENDIX / KING KT 74

NavWorx

Right now the GDL 82 is at the top of my list.  So I’m looking for anyone who has tried any of these systems and how successful they are working with SkyView and the 470 or 472.

Other transponders cost as much or more than the 261 Dynon.  The 261 would be and was my choice, one I never regretted (took out a Garmin 327).  Make a cover for the hole. Or make a whole new panel.
Sold the 327 for $$$ several years back. Now a 327 would only bring $.

Very happy with the Echo UAT. Cheaper than replacing a working transponder. The other consideration is all new transponders are going to be Mode S. You cannot turn off the continuous transmission of your side number with a Mode S transponder. Mode C retains your privacy when the Echo UAT (or GDL 82) are in Anonymous Mode. Both automatically switch to full information mode when you set your squawk to other than 1200 as required post 2020 in some airspace or when receiving ATC services.

I'm running the Appareo in the 172, and full Dynon in my experimental. As noted above the cost of anything other than the -261 transponder will be much higher. How much money are you willing to spend to avoid making a blank plate for the panel?

SV-XPNDR-261 + SV-GPS-2020 $2648.00
SV-XPNDR-262 + SV-GPS-2020 $2264.00
Garmin GDL 82                        $1795.00
uAvionix ECHO + SKYFYX          $1399.00

I'm looking to save money AND have a simpler installation in an already flying airplane.  Building a new panel from scratch is out of the question for me.  I did it once. Don't want to do it again.
The main purpose of this post is to find out if anyone else has done this and are there any functional issues with it.  As an example, running the 472 IN without any OUT onboard causes a TRAFFIC ALERT of myself about 1/2 the time.

Edit:
Almost forgot about the new FAA rebate.
SV-XPNDR-261 + SV-GPS-2020 $2648.00 - $500 = $2148.00
SV-XPNDR-262 + SV-GPS-2020 $2264.00 - $500 = $1764.00
Garmin GDL 82                        $1795.00 - $500 = $1295.00
uAvionix ECHO + SKYFYX          $1399.00 - $100 = $1299.00
The ECHO does not qualify for the FAA rebate but uAvionix is offering $100 for the next few months.

The SV-XPNDR-262 + SV-GPS-2020 is not an option for 2020 compliance. Not enough wattage.

Looks like uAvionics will be your choice. Some are happy with it, some not. You might even find one used for less.

The SV 262 is listed in the FAA rebate equipment eligibility list.  Some are using the SV 262.  Are you sure it is not 2020 Compliant?

Yup, we're sure.  The link below lists the FAA-Approved V2 ADS-B Out Avionics (as of 15-Oct-2018) and only shows the SV-XPNDR-261 Transponder under Dynon:

https://www.faa.gov/nextgen/equipadsb/installation/equipment/#D-out

ADS-B OUT 2020 compliance requires a Class 1 Transponder.  The SV-XPNDR-262 is a Class 2 Transponder, as noted in the "Specifications" tab in the link below, and also states "SV-XPNDR-262 ... cannot be used for 2020 FAA ADS-B Out mandate":

http://dynonavionics.com/mode-s-transponders.php

The link also states:

"US customers should choose the SV-XPNDR-261 for 2020 ADS-B mandate compliance (requires SV-GPS-2020 or other suitable position source).

The SV-XPNDR-261 is a Class 1 transponder that can be used above those limitations. For US aircraft, the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate requires a Class 1 transponder, so for US aircraft, the SV-XPNDR-261 should be installed."

After I posted I did some more reading and discovered what you just posted. Thanks though. I also have to make a decision. But I did sign up and get my rebate reservation number.
