I'm considering purchasing a Garmin GNS 650, and an Arinc-429 to connect between the Garmin and my Skyview. When the two are connected with the Arinc-429 I know the GPS data gets transmitted to the skyview, but does the Arinc-429 also transmit the NAV data from the 650? Or would I have to connect the NAV side to the Skyview using serial? and how about the com? would com frequencies show on the dynon screen or would that need serial?

The ARINC feeds both GPS and NAV data from the GTN-650 to the SkyView. It also provides flight plan feed from the 650 to the SkyView. I normally run with HSI feed from the GTN-650 GPS, HSI bearing #2 coming from the GTN-650 NAV, and the GTN-650 flight plan displayed on the SkyView map. I put either the IFR chart or the applicable approach plate on the second SkyView display. This has proven to be a nice IFR set up.

That does sound nice. All that info over the ARINC is nice also it frees up another serial port for me. Thanks for the info.

On another note, the Garmin IFR navigators do not put out or accept COM tuning data, so we cannot display the COM frequencies anywhere or set them. They also do not accept remote NAV tuning commands, although they do output the current NAV frequency and we show that next to the HSI.

So forgetting the com tuning, what you are saying is that I can not turn the OBS on the NAV to a certain radial or center it using the CRS knob on the dynon, like I can with my VAL NAV2000. It would have to be turned on the 650 itself.

SkyView can adjust the OBS on both the GPS and the NAV. Didn't mean to say otherwise. It's only the frequencies that we can't adjust.

Back around version 4 of the firmware I was able to see my GTN650 frequencies on the Skyview when it was my selected com transmitter, just as it shows my SL30 primary and standby frequency. That went away with later versions. Would be nice to have it back. I have dual D1000 (with 10.1 firmware) with ARINC429 for GTN 650 and serial for SL30 with PMA5000X audio panel.

Kelly,
The GTN does not output these frequencies at all so there is no way for us to display them, and it never has.

Additionally, SkyView didn't show any com frequencies until 6.0 (June 2013).

I am planning a retrofit of my existing panel using the new Skyview touch system. I already have a 430W and a SL30 Nav/Com radio.

Can the Skyview be configured to connect to the 430W via the Arinc 429 interface and the SL30 via a serial connection so I can see and control the frequencies on the SL30 while still accessing the 430W via the Arinc interface and using its com and nav radios as my Com 2 (not controlled by the Skyview system?) If so, then I'd assume that the OBS for both the GPS and the SL30 would be able to be controlled by the Skyview panel?

Thanks!

Never mind.... I found my answer in an earlier post and by reading the installation manual more closely. The 430W will provide nav guidance (GPS and Nav radio) via the ARINC interface, and I'll control my SL30 com and nav via a serial connection. I had forgotten that the certified 430W can't be controlled externally
