I installed my arinc 429 today on my skyview. Upon attempts to configure it, I get a red bar notice on my configured devices page. It says something is missing the Firm wear. It identifies the presence of the module and the serial number, but.... What gives?

Is your SkyView running the just released 2.6? This is a pre-requisite? If so, can you jot down the error message you're seeing exactly?

I almost figured this out myself. Figured I was missing some firmware in an update. Thanks. John

oK moved it a step closer. Once I get it working what can I expect in the display? Will any of the flight plan in the gamin be presented on the map page? Will the course line in the gamin from waypoint to waypoint be visible on the map page? Js

The RS 232 output from the GNS 430 to pin #3 of the ARINC 429 converter
Is that used for POS 2 ? ( backup position )
That reference is missing on the Dynon Docs Garmin 430/530 wiring page.

No. That is an auxiliary connection that is used to augment the ARINC 429 connection so that the ARINC-429 connection can be considered to be a "full" position source for SkyView's use. Consider it part of the ARINC-429 wiring, not a separate serial position input. The 2.6 manual does include this connection, fyi.

Regarding data visible on the SkyView moving map when interfaced with a GNS430:

The SkyView moving map will only should course guidance, route legs, etc. from the SkyView moving map inputs. Currently that input consists of direct-to a single waypoint. Upon release of our Navigation Mapping Software upgrade, you will have multi-leg route-planning capability in the SkyView map.

External GPS devices outpoint only GPS position and course deviation information. They do not output their multi-leg route depictions for display in the SkyView moving map. In the future, we may add the capability to import a multi-leg route definition from external sources such as the GNS430/530, but that feature has not yet been scheduled for development.

Regarding NAV data from the GNS430/530, refer to the bottom of this posting for guidance on configuration of the Garmin device:

Dynon,

Please add the GNS 480 to the list you will import multileg flight plans from. It would be extremely valuable to import from the X96 series as well. These units can obviously be removed from the plane and programmed at home before a trip which is a great deal safer than doing so from the cockpit.

We have a couple of planes here that have their Garmin 300XL connected to their X96 portable for a moving map display via serial Aviation format. Enter the flight plan or approach on the 300xl and the waypoints and leg tracks display on the x96 portable. Given that nothing is entered directly into the x96 it must be getting the data via the serial port. If we already have the 430 serial ouput wired up for the altitude why not capture the same data that the x96 is picking up and use it for the moving map display?

Hi Greg,

Flight plan crossfilling from other devices is in our nearer term future plans, but we don't have a specific release for it to announce yet.

OK glad to hear that this is on the to do list because for anyone with an IFR or external GPS it will be important that the moving map will be able to display the active route. I will be patient. Thanks.
