I've owned my very low time RV-14 for about 20 months. The HDX system has performed without issue until two flight ago when my right-hand screen gave me a CAUTION - BACKUP BATT UNAVAILABLE along with BACKUP BATT TEST NEEDED. With a fully functional left-hand screen I flew a local VFR flight for over an hour but the CAUTION never went away. I went into the setup menu and the BACKUP BATTERY STATUS page.
The page shows:
BATTERY CONNECTED (SETTING): YES.
LAST BATTERY SHUTDOWN: ABNORMAL
BATTERY STATUS: 00.00V
CHARGE STATUS: MISSING/FAULT
I've been looking through the Installation and User Guides but haven't found anything that speaks to this.

Any help appreciated,
PJ

Did you try running the test? Sounds like your batter may be bad.

PTJ - You could swap the battery with the known good one on the other screen - ie ‘suspect’ battery goes To the good screen.
Connect a battery charger to the airplane
Turn on the battery master switch & turn off all unnecessary electrics but leave the main screen (with the suspect battery) on for say 4+ hrs
Then check the backup battery status. If the result is still bad then most probably there is a battery fault or it’s 3 wires/connector at the battery.
Or there may be (unlikely IMO 🙏) a problem with the 2nd screen. Let us know how it turns out - It could be helpful for others who may experience the similar symptoms 😉

I have had one of the little black 3 wire connectors for the backup battery fail before.
By disconnecting/reconnecting and wiggling, I could get the fault to appear and disappear.

Less brute force is better 🤣🤣

Did you see this alternative if a new one is needed?

I have had similar problems in the past, typically a software or hardware issue with the display and not a real battery problem. You can check the Alert Data file using the Export User Data Log function to see when the Alerts are generated and in what order. You can also check the battery section of the User_Config.dfg file and look at the last shut down state that is loaded at boot up. My experience is if you get an inflight error that will not go away, power down the display (BUTTON 1) and restart it. Same applies to automatic reboots in-flight (system 3/system 20 events), shut down the power and restart. You can change values in the User_Config.dfg file using a computer editor and load it to the display.

battery_installed=1
bad_shutdown=1
low_battery_voltage=0
battery_test_date=09-10-2025
battery_test_length=45
battery_discharge_p1=11439
battery_discharge_p2=11077
battery_discharge_p3=10727
battery_detailed_status=0
