SV-Intercom-2S: background noise

We have a two 10" screen set-up with the SV-Intercom-2S and COM Control Panel. The intercom operates fine between pilot and co-pilot with no static noise and on transmission the recipient hears the transmission as we hear the response with again no static. There is no static on listing to ATIS and listening to other transmissions. However, when we are in "stand-by" i.e. just listening there is a constant background static noise. What should we look for to sort this issue.

Is this a new problem or a new airplane?
On the ground or in flight? If on ground, are you in a hangar?
Does it do it with the radio off? Volume all the way down?
Is the RX indicator on the radio present?
Does the squelch on the Intercom fix it?

New LSA aircraft

On the ground or in flight? If on ground, are you in a hangar?
On the ground; still completing registration process but outsid the hangar in the open.

Does it do it with the radio off? Volume all the way down?
Does not do it with the radio off. The intercom and warnings from the "Dynon Lady" are both crystal clear. When the radio is "ON" and the volume is all the way down there is no background static, but as soon as it moves off the "bottom" the static starts.

Is the RX indicator on the radio present?
Shows "RXSQ" and there is static. When you depress the Radio Vol button, RXSQ goes off but the radio also goes silent and there is no static.

Does the squelch on the Intercom fix it?
No

On ATIS the static reduces but is still there. On TWR (or GND) the static increases until transmission is heard.

This is actually a feature of the radio (and most others). Essentially, ALL radios nominally mute the background noise that exists on all radio frequencies and aren't receiving when there isn't a strong signal coming in. So when you're not talking and there isn't a strong radio signal in range, you SHOULD hear silence.

Occasionally, you may have reason to want to hear a very weak signal - perhaps a very faint wx report, or a far away aircraft that you're trying to hear, etc). So most radios have a feature that temporarily removes the squelching or silencing function of the radio and lets you listen to whatever is on the frequency (usually static - thank the universe for that). With our radio, you do this by briefly pressing the volume knob. When you're in this mode, you see RXSQ on the display. You'll also hear everything that is coming over the radio frequency, static and all (there's always static there).

In other words, normal "stand-by" is when the radio isn't showing the RXSQ symbol, not when it is.

We might be misunderstanding something, but it sounds like it's operating normally.

Your response clarified a few things and led me to check the set-up for the SV-COM-C25 which had the Squelch set at "100". Result - no radio transmissions were being received when the radio was in normal "stand-by" mode. Set the level to "70" and now works perfectly i.e. no static when no transmission is being received, cuts in correctly when a transmission occurs and RXSQ over-rides (as it should).
