SV-INTERCOM-2S compatibility with GARMIN GTN 650

Hi all,

I have heard that there could be a compatibility clash between the SV-INTERCOM-2S and Garmin's GTN 650 GPS/NAV/COMM system. Exactly what it is I don't know, but a colleague was advised of this by a hugely reputable shop, and was steered towards a PS Engineering intercom. Does anyone know for certain if this is fact or fiction?

Many thanks,

R

I can tell you for fact that the GTN-650 has (or now perhaps had) a "known" problem with PS-Engineering audio panels. The problem is the transmit audio is very weak for 9 seconds or so, then goes to normal level. As most transmissions are short you can see the problem. Garmin has a software fix for the GTN-650 that does solve the problem - you just need to go back and reset all the mic gain configurations after the patch is installed. I do not know if this is still an issue with the current GTN-650 delivered software.
As this problem did not exist with Garmin audio panels, I would not be surprised if the PS-Engineering issue is not unique. I would think however if you can get the GTN-650 to work with a PS Engineering audio panel then it should work with the SkyView audio panel.

There is no reason the SkyView intercom won't work with the GTN, and we have not heard of any issues.

Likely, the issue was that the intercom is not an audio panel, and thus doesn't have switches to turn on and off your COM and NAV audio, and the shop upsold a device that has these functions at a significant price premium. It seems that most people with a GTN also go with full audio panels.

Many thanks guys.

If there are any other reports from actual users out there of the two items specified, your input would be well received.
