I am going to install the SV-MAG 236 in between ribs 5 and 6 in the right wing of a RANS S7-S. It is remote from ferrous metal and magnetic disturbances.

1. May I install the OAT in near proximity to the SV-MAG 236? By that I mean within a couple of inches?

2. The SV-MAG 236 product description implies that the purpose of the 18" stub cable is to permit the D-sub to be some distance from the SV-MAG 236. This raises the question of how to fasten the cable such that the D-sub is distant from the SV-MAG 236 and yet is able to be drawn out of the wing so that the SV-MAT 236 can be removed and disconnected from the cable running into the SkyView. How far must/should the D-sub be from the SV-MAG 236 to be confident that it will not interfere?

1. The OAT is mostly aluminum and doesn't carry any appreciable power. So yes.
2. That's the intent. But to answer your question another way, note that the ADAHRS also has magnetic sensors inside of it and it and has the DSUB connector right on the box itself. I don't think we've ever had problems, except for when people accidentally come across a third party connector that for some reason has magnetized bits on it. But as long as we were making a stand-alone magnetometer, we figured we'd get as much of the possible ferrous metal away from the magnetometer itself. But nominally it's not an issue even when the connector is right up against the box.
